I'm putting it on my calendar.

And the great thing is that we'll have time to start promoting this to other Mootsters and institute a revival of sorts.

Indeed, get the word out!

I forgot to mention, feel free to bring friends no matter what they ride as long as they can ride safely and sanely with the group. I'll be +1 at least with my dad on his Magna, and probably more with some CO riders I haven't seen in a while.

Gee, you're going to make us ride all the pretty roads between here and there, just to ride more pretty roads with, er, pretty people?

I'll be there unless the currently unpredictable happens!  (and there is a high rate of unpredictability these days lol)

I'm trying to talk Val into making this one. There is a pretty good RV campground, Peak One, right on the lake less than a mile from the town of Frisco. Trouble is, she has already booked her annual week-long horse camping trip in the Sierras. That takes place the 3rd week of August, and the 2 events together would pretty much consume the whole month, with travel time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If I can make it, I'll bring some giveaway goodies, if not, I can send some to someone else to take along.

I'm hoping the family will be living in Florida by then but even so this sounds like something I won't want to miss so I'm penciling it in and crossing my fingers.  If I can push the button on this and we are in Florida already I'll probably fly into Denver and rent something.  Might do that even if the wife and I are still in Houston.

So is the general plan to leave home the weekend before, or on Monday?  I know a lot of people typically stream in adn out all week, but what are ya'll thinking?  I plan to trailer, probably with Russ and maybe bring our wives.  August will be a great time to get away from the TX heat.

I'm cheating on this one, flying into Denver and riding one of my dad's Magnas, but I figured the weekends on either end would be used for transit to CO, arriving in Frisco Sunday evening and leaving Saturday morning giving the group Monday through Friday for rides and sights. Anyone is welcome to arrive and depart as their schedules demand, of course. I have four longish rides planned, figured we'd take a day (maybe Wednesday) to run around to local stuff like hikes, alpine slides, shopping and stuff like that.

Do you think we'll have anywhere to stay with the Sturgis rally the following week?  It's insane up there!

I plan to go.  Will trailer up with Skyride, probably spend a day or two elsewhere on one or both ends.

Time to reserve places to sleep.  Anyone have recommendations in or around Frisco??

I have booked August 1 - 5 (check out on 5th) at New Summit Inn in Frisco -- two queen beds, one room $79/night (plus, of course, tax, title, license, etc., etc.)  Phone # (970) 668-3220.  yes, I know it is quicker to book through Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. etc., and the rate is the same, BUT, if you call, you get brownie points since they don't have to pay the commission!  They have 24 hr cancellation policy.

So, fellow riders, if you are serious, you will book a room.  Summers in Co, especially in popular spots like Frisco, are expensive if you wait too long...

I also booked a room at New Summit for Aug 1 -5.  They were #2 on Trip Advisor, but #1 (Alpine Inn) was right on the I-70 access road so New Summit looks more peaceful.  Terrific rate!

Awesome! Lawrence, thanks for finding a good lodge. With a new relationship, new family, new house, and now a new job, I've been swamped and haven't had much time to devote to MaG planning. I have some rides planned for us and I will definitely be there riding one of my dad's Magnas. I also have a little surprise planned for us, details in the next few days, or as soon as I can get some pictures posted.

Brad, I'm so glad you'll be able to join us! I hope to get more MOOTsters on board as August nears!

Jerry. We'll miss you for sure. Here's a suggestion. Maybe you can get someone from the DFW area to trailer your bike out there and then you can fly from Tennessee out to Colorado and we'll pick you up?

Do you have rides / events planned on Monday the 1st, or are you considering that to be a travel day?

I have rides planned but not really assigned to days. I was planning on leading rides Monday through Friday except for Wednesday which I was leaving for a free day for shopping, hiking, or whatever else. All that is flexible though.

I mentioned a little surprise a few days ago and here it is!

With money a bit tight I can't give 'em away for free, but $15 per shirt should just about cover my cost to make them. The above image is metallic silver on black, I can also do black on white or either silver or black on another color shirt as long as that color is readily available from hobby and fabric stores. If you'd like one, let me know your color and size preference and whether you'd like the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen Magna logo on the chest  and we'll get them going!

We plan to come in Sunday so we'll be able to ride on Monday. And it sounds like we need to plan on staying through Friday night as well. OK. We'll finish up our lodging choices accordingly.

T-shirt
Nice job on the t-shirt design.  I like it.

What shirt options do we have?  I really like the tri-blend t-shirts because they are a lot softer and breathe easier than 100% cotton shirts.

American Apparel makes a tri-blend that's actually made in the U.S. I usually pick up the blank shirts for about $10. http://store.americanapparel.net/en/tri-blend-short-sleeve-track-shirt_tr401 (Ignore their full msrp price.)

In fact, I used to buy them from this place: http://ppsapparel.com/us-blanks-us2229-adult-usa-made-tri-blend-t-shirt/

Their black t-shirt would work well with this design.

If your t-shirt printer can't get a shirt like that would it be OK if I bought a few and sent them to you?

We're not using a printer service, we made these ourselves using a Cameo vinyl cutter and some silk screening kits. All I've seen locally are Gildan and Hanes tees, I was planning on using the Hanes because I'm not a huge fan of the Gildan fabric. If you want to buy your own blanks we can definitely print on them.

My number one criterion for a shirt is that it NOT have a sewn in label.  Most of them print the label on the inside back top of the shirt, which is a huge improvement.  I could never understand a fine, soft fabric labeled with barbed wire...

He he. Love the "barb wire" comment. That's so true.

I'll get some shirts sent to you, Jeff. If I don't have your address I will PM you.

This year I'm going to be bringing some of Karen's family members. I just booked a vacation house rental for 7 of us. We'll have four to 5 riders total out of this bunch and 2 passengers.

Skyride and I are into planning our coming and going.  We are thinking of a white water rafting (1/2 day) on the Arkansas through Brown's canyon.

Of the roads I have ridden in Colorado, one of my favorites in the Million Dollar Highway from Durango through Ouray.  I am thinking of planning an extra day to do a loop, say, Salida - Montrose - Durango - Pagosa Springs - Saguache - back to Salida.

A ride from Frisco all the way to Durango and back seems like a stretch for one day, given summer traffic, my tired body, etc. etc.

So, Jeff, I am wondering if you had planned such a ride.  If so, I would at least consider it, if not, we may take an extra day to make the loop.

Just reserved a condo in Frisco for week of Aug. 1, 2016.  My wife and I are staying in condo as we have a little dog who will be traveling with us.  New Summit Inn does not allow pets.

We plan to arrive in Frisco on the evening on Sunday, July 31 (trailering ST from Dallas).  Thus, I will be ready to ride on Monday if anyone arrives on Sunday.

Whoever is ordering shirts please put me down for an XL.  I will pay you when I see you.

31 days and counting.  We need some cooler air.

Skyride and I have firmed up our travel plans to Colorado.  Any one is welcome to join and ride with us for any part of the journey:

Day 1, Thur 28
Rick and I will meet up and load up early in the morning, and drive to Clayton, NM to spend the night. (Days Inn Clayton Nm
1120 S 1st St,) Will travel through (or at least through the edges) of Amarillo en route.

Day 2 Fri 29
From Clayton to Buena Vista for a raft trip through Brown's Canyon.  The raft departs at 1:45.  When we get through and dry off, we will proceed to Salida, where we are booked at Baymont Inn & Suites Salida 7400 West US Highway 50

Day 3 Sat 30
Leave the truck at the motel in Salida, ride through Montrose to Ouray, Silverton, and Durango.  Stay at the Iron Horse Inn in Durango.

Day 4 Sun 31
Ride Pagosa Springs, Saguache, to Salida.  Load the bikes and continue to Frisco, where we have reservations at The Summit Inn Sunday through Thursday nights.

Day 9 Friday Aug 5 -- check out and start home to Austin.  Not sure of our route at this point, but will probably not unload the bikes again until in Central Texas.

So if any of you want to join us, please post here, or send me a PM.  Less than a month to go!  So pumped!!

Wow Lawrence, quite the plan you and Rick have! Don't tire yourselves out, plenty of riding to be done out of Frisco! You're gonna love the skyway from Durango to Ourray, it's a great cruise. We'll see you in Frisco Sunday evening.

Last call for tees! At the moment we're printing one tee each for Lawrence and Rick plus whatever Jesse sends to me. If anyone else would like one, please let me know here or via PM by this Sunday (7/10) so we can get the shirts ordered on Monday.

Gotcha, Brad. Glad you're gonna make it!

Two weeks and counting, gents!

Check your travel plans against road closure reports. There are a few wildfires going, most out of our way but one notable one along US HWY 50 between Canyon City and Salida which might be on your planned route to Frisco. The extended weather models look promising, looks like we're hitting the transition from El Niño to La Niña, and clear skies are calling. That said, weather can change quickly in this area, so bring thermal layers and rain gear if you have it. I'll try my best to keep everyone warm and dry but stuff happens sometimes... Morning temps could be in the 40s though probably mid 50s at least by the time we get on the road each morning. I doubt we'll see much above 80-85 at altitude. Dress accordingly!

Will be leaving Norman Sat., July 30th and spend Sat. night in Raton, NM.  Head to Frisco Sun.  Lawrence or Rick- depending on when you get back to Salida, I may try to meet you there in Salida?  Plan on a couple of scenic out of the way rides near Trinidad and Walsenburg on the way to Frisco. Brad,

Friday: We hope to get to Salida about 11 AM, go rafting and then back to Salida by 6 PM for the night.

Saturday: We'll leave Salida at 8 AM, ride t0 Durango and spend Sat night in Durango

Sunday: Ride to Salida arriving at 3 PM, load the bikes in the trailer and leave for Frisco getting there at 5 PM. Sounds like a meet up might work.

It probably won't work out exactly that way, but that is the plan.

Hi Rick,

Yes. We are joining you guys. I just made sure that we were going to be in the same time slot so I told them who we wanted to join. I guess they thought we were all the same party. Ironically, I didn't get the confirmation email.

I will have to call them back.

The timing just isn't going to work for me on this one troops. I knew this schedule was in my busy season and I just cannot break from work to attend as much as I wanted to. I was looking at my Magna Owners history and I have been to every one since 2009 when I started. Sad thing to break the streak.

Thanks Jeff for busting your hump to steer this get together to its final phase.

Everyone be safe and have a wonderful time. Take and post a lot of pictures and report on progress as time permits.

We'll miss ya Dave, sorry you can't make it. I was really hoping you'd be able to get away with us. Next time man!

We're about ready to take off from Denver for the final leg to Frisco. If anyone needs to find me, call or text 512-923-4626. I should be at the New Summit Inn by about 5pm or so.

edit: We just checked in to New Summit Inn, we're in room 209.

Arrived at home in Norman at 8:30 pm.  784 miles in 11 hrs, 10 mins.  Whew!!  Backside is very sore.  Had a great week in Frisco.  Nice and cool all week.  Arrive home to temps in the mid 90's.  Yuck.  Will update later.

ST hums at 80 mph, and I was getting passed by cagers headed back to NC, MA,SC,VA,WV, etc. Stopped in Salida, KS, to gas up-someone said 'hey Brad', and it was Karen's brothers fueling up also, pick-up and trailer.  A 'Special' thanks to Jeff for organizing the 2016 MootMag.  Had a very great week riding the high passes of central CO.  More later.

We pulled in late last night. Will unload the bikes this evening after I complete a full day of work. :(

Great trip. :-)  Probably my most enjoyable MootMAG ever because we were in the location long enough to do a fair bit of riding and a few other local activities. I didn't feel like we were in "traveling mode" all the time.

Thanks again to Jeff for organizing the event. You local knowledge made the rides great and kept us mostly dry.

Jeff and April,  thank you so much for all your time and effort organizing this event.  I really enjoyed the group rides on Monday and Tuesday.  An unexpected death in the family required that we return home Wednesday to prepare for and travel to a funeral that was held on Sunday in Mississippi.  We are now back home.

Great seeing all the long standing MOOT guys (Brad, Lawrence, Rick, Jesse) and meeting meeting new folks as well.

Until we ride again, stay safe.

Hello all, I really hated missing MOOTMAG again this year and seeing everyone. I had a 2 day conference for work to attend in Denver the week before MOOTMAG. The my wife and I took a few days vacation in Woodland Park and saw all the sights. No moto. I can't wait to see all your pictures.

Jesse, thanks for the "lid picker" measurement kit. As it turns out, since you already paid for the kit, the rest of us benefit -- the report only is $5 (plus tax, of course).  Just ordered mine.

Thanks again for everything.

Sorry it took me so long to post. After getting back to Austin and getting back into the groove, April took off to training in Chicago with her laptop and the only copy of the photos she shot!

Hats (helmets?) off to all of you, you EARNED your Colorado stickers on this trip, folks! From magnificent canyons to twisty and technical mountain pass roads to high altitudes through mountain downpours up into the clouds atop purple mountains majesty! We traveled 751 miles, traversed 18 passes, crossed the Continental Divide 13 times, and reached a maximum altitude of 14,130 feet atop the highest paved road in North America at the summit of Mt. Evans. Brad and my dad even went a few better standing atop the summit seal at 14,265!

Guys, thank you so much for coming out to my old back yard to scoot these little cruisers through the hills. I had a great time showing you around and hanging out, and I know my dad and Russ enjoyed meeting all of you as well.

Dave, Terry, Hoot, Scott, Marty, Mike, Jerry, and everyone else I'm forgetting, you guys were sorely missed, I wish you could have made it out there with us but I certainly understand. I'd like to get a miniMaG going so we can all catch up.

Here's a few photos I've picked, the full album can be seen here in the MOOT bucket (http://s471.photobucket.com/user/MOOT-Photos/library/Moot%20Mag%20Photos/MOOT%20MaG%202016).

I went up a few passes when I was there, the last one being Independence Pass. Once up there I didn't know how I was going to get my bike down, I have that big a fear of heights.

Someone mentioned walking it down, I am the first one to speak up, yes I can walk it down. That is what I started to do, Mary Ellen (luckily is the same way), decided to get on the bike and go down against head on traffic up against the mountain, moving out to the white line when a car came just enough to let that car by, some went around me and let me stay in their lane.

Mary Ellen looked at the mountain the whole way down as pretty much I did. The older I am the worse it is. I am not a big sissy baby Hoot, it is a real fear alive and well. It is a shame as it is so much fun if I could enjoy it. If it slopes down the side I am much better to alright, drop offs, I am done.

What do I fear? Falling off, How, losing my balance, looking around not watching where you are going (even though I am watching the ground) or I just freak out because I can't handle heights and make a uncontrollable error.

Maybe this trip was not right for me with all the passes you took in.

Just in case you were wondering......I am still a stable person and don't need a fruitcake DR.

Jeff, you are right.  I would have been nervous riding that pass with that much water coming over it.  Many have died over the years in winter on that road due to snow and avalanches.

Terry, when my cousin and his wife rode that pass decades ago, his wife slid down and huddled in the floorboards of the car he was driving -- on a clear sunny day.  Lots of folks are afraid of falling off the mountain, you are not alone!

My only regret in riding the road this year is that we were running out of daylight, and couldn't stop and gawk at several spectacular spots.  Enjoyed our time at the top of Monarch Pass a bit too much...

Hi there folks!

This ride sounds like the call for me and a friend here. There is a road I would love to suggest, if it fits in the time schedule. It's not on the usual routes, but will take you right back heading home.

I am a fellow Magna buff since way, way back, #29 here. I don't have Big Red any more, as I had stopped riding due a long battle with illness, that is now gratefully resolved. I had owned a many a Hondas since my first ride at 15, a Super 90. What great memories! I was hoping to possibly keep my Moot # and just change the photo? I emailed, but I never got a response, but what the heck. I now own a 3rd Gen 1998 Magna, and do so LOVE this torque machine! So I have freshly logged in and have no idea what will appear as my name and no matter for now. My name is Kirk Allen, and I live in Dallas with my oldest friend ever since we both got divorced. There tended to be a repeating matter of wives calling us back from our long planned rides back in the day....soooo. No problem now. hehehe We turned the dining room into a shop! Huge tool cabinets and bike lifters etc, so we can work inside whenever needed. Both Kirby Martin and I have worked on bikes for quite a long time, but Kirby is retired a Certified Honda, Lexus, and Infinity mechanic. We have rebuilt quite a few of the 1st generation 45s and 65s. We were members of the original SMOT email list Yes, we are that old!) He owns the most pristine Sabre I have ever seen, straight out of the box, and it has about 12,000 miles. He also rides and ST1300, and there are multiple bikes of all around the place, vintage bikes, and dirt bikes, etc.

Anyway, the dates sound like we could be ready by then. Before that I have a little question. About 3 weeks ago somewhere here I read a little trick about blowing out the carbs without taking them off, possibly through the bowl drainer? I would like to try this. Does anyone here know of the post? I have been searching and can't find it again? Would like to try it before pulling the carbs, probably because of the PTSD I still have from pilling V65s. Ha!

One last question. I admit I haven't read the entire fax yet. I notice the little black outs ........ for certain words. I totally get blocking products. If they want to be here then they should sponsor us. That's exactly why I refuses to PAY for and hat or T-Shirt that is thought to be cool or whatever. Why in God's name should we be paying to own these logos??? I just don't do it. So anyway, I am sure that the blocked words are automated, but the programming is blocking out many other words that seem to be important to the resolve or comments. Believe me, I'm not at all trying to start anything when I know someone has worked their butts off for this. I'm just curious. In the mean time I will keep searching, and you may see the technical question elsewhere.

Looking forward to meeting those in our area and on the ride, should I get blessed enough to get beyond this beautiful day in Texas.
