Title: Cam chain tension
Post by: Charles S Otwell on January 19, 2007, 12:45:58 PM
Some of you may remember the subject of cam chain tensioners that came up a while back . Jimmy Glover being the victum of a couple of broken ones. While changing out his last tensioner (actually refered to as a lifter assembly by Honda parts finder) I discovered that the problem was just a broken spring in the assembly. Honda does not sell just the spring and the assembly is about $60.00 . I think I've found a source for the size spring wire I need make the springs .My question is , does anyone have an old broken tensioner(aka lifter assembly) laying around? Or am I the only person that keeps broken parts?  :D I need it for the spring deminsions. I will return it repaired or at least like it was. If any one has one let me know. I refuse to pay $60.00 for a part that needs a $2.00 spring. thanks!!

I would think Jimmy should have a few broken ones laying around. :)  Maybe Dave Dodge does otherwise.

Jimmy, I say that because you're the only one I know who's manly enough to push the Magna enough to wear out a few cam tensioners. ;)

Now you're crawfishing Jesse.  Stick to your guns, Jimmy's way out there in Bronte-land.  Although I did think it was a case of the knock calling the tensioner black!!!! LOLOL

You guys are all a real riot. :)  I just didn't want to razz Jimmy too hard seeing as how I've never met him in person.

Between the cracks about the cam tensioners and Hondaline engine guards being Jimmy "tested and approved", he might think I'm not a nice person. LOL.

Diesel Magnaman... that's pretty funny. But hey, I did hear that knock and it turned out to be there. Some might consider that super hearing. Now if I could only fly... wait that's what the Magna is for.

Charles,  I've got my old one when I switched mine out.  Good thing for you, bad thing for me, I'm 99% sure I didn't need to replace it and the old one is still good.  Its got a couple marks in it where I held it with a plires, but nothing that would affect the functioning or fit....I think I have the little tool that came with the new one too.  Let me know where and I'll ship it out.

Charles,  I sent it yesterday (Tuesday), should be there around Friday.  Don't worry about sending it back or the shipping costs, it's yours to keep if you or someone you know needs it in the future.

Thanks Nick, Just trying to help anyone else who runs into this problem. if I can get new springs in a few extras, no one should have to be out $60.00 and have to hunt one down and wait for it to come in. I will make them available to everyone at cost , looking to be about $5.00 so far. anyway,, thanks again..
