Title: Oil Mod for v30?
Post by: Kirk Dillen on February 26, 2007, 10:12:05 AM
I was looking into doing the oil mod on my v30.  Outfit on ebay sells a Dave Dodge type bolt on.  When I emailed them to ask some questions about it, I was told that the v30 did not need any modification.  Does anyone know for sure? (if anyone would know, someone here would).

Kirk. I am not a first gen guy but I believe that is correct. I recall only the v45s and the v65s being the ones needing the oil mod. Kerry or Jeff should know. Or you could call Dave Dodge and ask.

I haven't ran across any discussion, nor thought much about it, about needing one on a V30 til now so it's new to me. I had heard the V45's and the later (85-86) V65's didn't need the mod but I would feel better knowing it was on there. My $.02 for what it's worth.

I've just pulled the heads all apart on my '86 and with just under 50,000 miles and neither I nor my buddy, who has lots of auto repair/rebuild experience, saw any unsual wear on the cams or any "friction" surfaces.  So, maybe you are right about the later 1st Gen engines.  1 1/2 Gen ?
