After saturday's ride to temple, I think I need to get a good set of highway pegs. Watching Greg O and some of the other guys kick their legs up looked really nice.
I have a set that the previous owner put on, they're welded to a motor mount bolt on each side. Problem is they're just too close to really do any good, your leg is bent more then when it's on the regular pegs. Anyone have any good setups with pictures? I really wanted to check out some of the bikes on the ride but didn't really get a chance too.
I also think I'm going to address my regular foot pegs. I saw someone had what looked like a double width peg, just to give you more surface to put your foot on. Not a floorboard, just wider pegs.
Does anyone make a longer peg? I notice I have to turn my right foot in towards the bike and my ankle hits the engine/tranny (whatever). After a long ride my knee starts to hurt a bit from having my leg turned inwards. Any suggestions there?
Thanks!
Check the Kuryakyn pegs (www.kuryakyn.com). They make some high quality pegs.
As far as highway pegs for stretching your legs out I would suggest gettting Hondaline engine guards and then attaching the highway pegs. There was a recent thread on this in this forum:
http://www.magnaownersoftexas.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=
Then engine guards will save your bacon if the bike ever falls. Engine guards from hondaparts-direct, $130. Cost of the gas tank they save, about $400 to $600.
You don't have a part number by any chance do you? I haven't been able to find them on that website...
Their web site sucks. I would pick out the "style" of peg that I'm going for and then call their tech support line to get the part specif part number for your bike. Then you can order them on-line from that link in that thread.
You are looking for footpegs and highway pegs. I don't know anything about the footpegs except that they do make the larger ones your are referring to. The highway peg thread has the details regarding the best ones assuming you're mounting them on engine guards.
Ok, I'll call them. I was asking about the engine guard part #, not the pegs yet....
Just to clarify, is 'Hondaline' Honda's OEM stuff, or is it another brand/manufacturer?
Thanks again!
When I get Home tonight I'll try to dig out the part numbers on the Kuryakn pegs and extender arms that I have on my bike.
The pegs as I recall are called 'pilot pegs' ... the mounts are a L shape extender arm, attached to a C clamp set that grips the frame tube.
Works great.
Maybe your pegs can be moved forward with an extender arm of some sort?
One note is that I just got a Mustang seat which pushes me an inch further back and an inch higher up. This makes a difference in the leg stretch. Before, with the stock seat, my knees were still bent in just a bit too much for my comfort. So I would (with a stock seat) prefer a longer extender arm to push the pegs further forward. Your mileage may vary :)
I wholeheartedly recommend pegs of some sort for long rides.
Maybe these?

So yours are clamped to the frame? Have any pictures?

Yes, it is the Honda OEM bars. I got them from hondaparts-direct.com for $130, but I don't remember the part number. Unfortunately I am traveling and won't be able to check the packaging until next week.
Here's a basic list of all the things you'll need from Kuryakyn that I got from a friend. The prices are not correct, but it gives you Kury's numbers and an idea on price.
shifter peg cover : 4034 $14.95
brake pedal cover pr : 4029 $29.95
longhorn offsets pr : 8016 $69.95
1.5 magnum quick clamp pr : 1001 $39.95
dually iso peg pr : 8028 $59.95
large iso pegs pr : 8002 $39.95
flamin' pegs pr : 4417 $89.99
front peg adapters pr: 8803 $18.95
rear peg adapters pr : 8802 $18.95
iso grips pr : 6236 $59.95
throttle bosses ea : 6250 $16.95
The following is the sizes of the pegs, as they aren't listed on kury's website. length dimensions are from the senter of the mount bolt to very end/
large iso pegs 4 7/8" x 1.5" these are nice and fat and comfy
small iso pegs 3 5/8" x 1.25" if in driver and pass pos.could be too small for comfort and safety IMHO
dually iso pegs 5" x 1.25" x 2.5" wide
iso wings 5" x 5" x 1 1/8"
Also, Longhorn offsets with clamps (#7785 ?? #7786) are something that several persons suggested to me for highway bars, due to the ability to adjust better.
Finally, the Hondalin Engine Guard part number is 08P51-PZ5-100, and can be purchased for $141.64 at this link, http://hondapartsdirect.reachlocal.net/fiche_select.asp?mfg=Honda&partnumber=08P51-MZ5-100 Here's a pic of the one I just installed, http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q97/mistyblueclayton/FlamenRightPegTank.jpg

Sometimes it's good to research a part number. I picked up a brand new set on eBay for $25 including shipping

:P
OK. Now that I've got that out of the way. That's a great price, Jimmy. Thanks for the lead. I may pick up an extra set.
Wow, so is that them?
That looks like 'em. If Jimmy got 'em and they fit then you should be golden.
Jimmy, was that you that won that auction on ebay?
Edit: I'm guessing so jlckglover...
That was me. I just had to brag about winning that auction at that price
I picked them up to replace mine because the set I have on now have some scratches from my spill at MOOTMAG #3. On another note I can personally vouch for the strength and design of the Hondaline guards. Not that it was planned that way
The best way to find deals on eBay is to look for auctions with weird listings, i.e. misspellings, listed by part number only, etc.
What are you going to do with your bad set? :D
OK heres from my parts list :
P/N
1001 1 1/2" magnum clamp $39.95
7996 longhorn offset offset $41.99
4425 pilot pegs $40.35
sorry no close up pics
One thing to note was it took a little finessin to mount the pegs on the side by the horn...just not a lot of room on the frame there but it does fit
Thats not bragging thats rubbing it in LOLOLOL Man sweet deal Jimmy

You say tomato, I say tomauto
Would you believe I got the same deal on the first pair I bought a couple years ago? Takes some digging and research but at times it's worth it.
Geez, that was a good deal. Wanna find me a VTX headlight for $20.00??

Do you have a case guard? If so I just upgraded my pegs and will let you have my other ones to try if you want? They are in great shape and will give you a good idea of witch way you want to go. I can send you a pic if you want.
Let me know,
Jeff
Yeah, I'd love to see a picture.
