Title: Replacement Seat Cover Source?
Post by: arent_we_sarcastic on March 06, 2007, 06:03:51 PM
Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I'm looking for a replacement seat cover for my 1986 VF700C Magna. Problem is I only want to recover the front section of the 2 piece seat. I'm having difficulty finding a cover and when I have the prices that I've been quoted up here are downright scarey. Was hoping that one of you would have an economical source that you would be willing to pass along.
Thanks from the still freezing and snow covered Great White North.

The only place I know to get a cover to redo the seat is from Travelcade.  I ran into this when I had to fix a seam on my front section.  I went to a couple of local upolstry shops and they wanted an arm and a leg to do this.  I ended up just restitching it myself.  If your good with sewing you might look into just making your own seat cover.  Take your old one off and use it for a pattern and get some good marine grade vinyl from the local fabric store and start sewing.  One of these days I might do that.

How scary, are the prices, give me an idea how much is too much and I'll see how much I can get it done for here. You do realize that you'll probably never match front and back unless you cover both. There are so many different shades of black you wouldn't believe it, not to mention different grains in the material.

Thanks for the input.
Some of the prices that I've been quoted approach $300 Canadian by the time you add on the taxes, shipping costs, duty etc...
A motorcycle shop near me quoted $120 and one week delivery. It's been over a month now, the seat cover is on back order and they can't give me a delivery date.
I ended up breaking into the g/f's sewing box and stitched the seat back together as a temporary fix until I can get a replacement.

I saw a seat cover for those in a JCWhitney Catalog.  You can probably find it on their website.

I was going to buy one off ebay for my '99, I think it was like $60.  Just wraps around and staples on the bottom.  I ended up getting a stock cover from a fellow mootster, but almost ordered that one off ebay.

Like this one:

Excellent!
Thanks guys!
I searched Ebay before without much success.
Will be ordering one from JC Whitney tomorrow.
That's way cheaper than anything else that I've been quoted.
Title: Recovering seats

Probably too late with this, but thought I would offer.

I have a little shop here in Houston that recovered my 1984 2-piece seat for around $100 and it was not just a slip on seat cover.  They reupholstered them both.  Looks really nice.

I got another 1984 seat done for Jeff Heard, and I think he would vouch for it also.

Let me know if you want help with it.

Hey Ray. Was that price just for recovering the existing foam or did they do any more work to it?

Not sure if I recall for sure.  He did offer options, for instance gel was offered.  I think I just had it recovered.

Welcome to come see it anytime.

The seat Ray had done for us looks great. To see what it looks like look in the for sale section at the V45 I have on there.
