On the way to work this morning some one turned right in front of me all I could do was jam on the brakes and pray I didn't hit them but me and the bike went down hard. Bent the front forks demolished the front fender and the windsheild and the instrument panel the guy that turned in front of me just kept on going. God was watching over me and I wasn't hurt to bad just a large knot on my hip and a brushed hand. After I got the bike towed home went to the doctor and got checked out . My question is do you think the bike is worth fixing or would I be better off tring to sell it as is and looking for something else? I am sure to have it fixed would problable be more than the bike is worth. Thanks for you imput.
Glad you weren't hurt any worse than you were!! I assume you don't have insurance since you didn't mention it. Without knowing all that needs to be replaced it is hard to tell. If you are patient you can find the used parts in salvage yards and on ebay. There are a few guys on here that have gone through the rebuild process. You may want to consider selling the salvage and buying another bike depending on several factors: mechanical ability (I have very little), emotional attachment to this bike (I have a lot), patience (I have none), and desire to get back on the road.
I would probably take a couple of days to think about it and get some more input from other guys on here.
Good luck
I am glad it sounds like you are OK. Hopefully you can fix it or sale it for parts and get a new Magna that is for sale.
I don't drive in blind spots but last week someone was about to change lanes in to me. I Broke hard but keep it up when it whipped back up under me. The person behind me freaked out more then I did. The person that changed lanes never knew I was there. Did not see me or hear my horn. He just keep on driving. I would like to get a helmet cam for fun and to record anything that happens on the road.
Glad to hear that you are ok thats the most important. Me I love working on stuff. If you can find the parts I would rebuild but thats me but I am sure they are not going easy to find check all the salvage yards and watch Ebay. I would also check the frame careful for cracks and being bent I would think the gauges are going to be the hardest to find have seen front forks and fenders before...
I found these front forks

still looking
Front fender new 116 and change at Ron Ayers
the gauges are the hard part
Certainly glad to hear your not seriously hurt. You certainly have options just which one best fits your needs. If I know this bunch you'll get more help than you could imagine. When your up to it post some pics so we can see what you need and better tell what's available. I saw a pretty nice salvage bike(2000 Magna I think ) on one of my salvage sites I'll look and see if it's still there. Let me know if I can help.
Sorry to hear about your mishap; but really glad youre not badly hurt.
Lots of folks 'round the forum have reworked bikes that have been thru a drop or bender so post your pics and any information ya can to help explain the damaged areas. As other posters mentioned motorcycle salvage yards often have the pieces if you are up the the wrenching.
I've also seen wrecked bikes for sale on both eBay and cycle trader being pieced out.
good luck and keep us posted
Thanks for the imput I only have liability insurance. I will take some pictures and maybe I can figure how to post them on here I am a little bit stiff tonight but I am sure that I will be ok. Once again thanks
Sorry to hear of about your accident, but focusing more on the fact that your OK and not hurt badly.
Jerry so sorry to hear of your mishap, glad that you are OK! That is the important thing!
To repair or replace, well I would say if it were going to cost more than $3000-3500 then I would replace no second thoughts about it. Then you could sell off yours after you pick up a replacement.
If it were going to be less than that I would think about repairing.
Hope you can get back in the saddle soon!!
Make sure you take a look at the frame. If you bent the frame in any way, I would sell it and get a different ride. Straightening a frame can be done but in my opinion it is not worth it. Too many issues if they don't get the frame just right.
Glad to here you are OK.
Good luck on the decision.
I took some pictures of the bike but I don't know how to post them to this site can one of yall tell me how to do it. Thanks. Never mind I figured it out.
WOW! That's pretty good damage for not hitting them. Glad you were not hurt. I had similar damage on my previous Magna and went through the time and expense to get it repaired but was never happy with it and ended up selling it. That was pre-ebay. Now days motorcycle parts are a bid away.
Good Luck,

DAMN!!!!!!
Did you slide into a curb to bend them that bad?
Jerry,
Sorry about the bike.
Just glad to hear you are OK!
No I just slide on the road didn't hit the crub. Anyone looking for parts I think I am going to just part it out.
Man sorry to hear about parting it out but you would make more money that way for sure than selling it out right. Looking at some carbs right now on ebay since mine have the cobra jet kit with the drilled slides. Other than that need a rear axle since when I had my chain done last they stripped it and tapped it and put american threads back on not a good job either!!!! Hope to see you back on a Magna soon !!!!
Jerry. I've been on vacation, actually still am, but just got back to an Internet connection. My recommendation would be to part it out, especially if there's a chance the frame has been bent. I suppose a dealership could check for you.
I was recently buying an engine for a Magna and most of the "certified" engine places wanted $1,000 to $1,400 + exchange. I eventually bought one off a wrecked bike for about $400. So there is a market out there. You can try ebay or the MOOT site for selling off the pieces. If the tank and fenders are in good shape they can fetch a few dollars as well.
It sounds like Allen would be interested in your carbs. ;) And if he's not. I would be. That would complete my spare engine. Also Dave Dodge may be interested in some of the parts as well but he'll probably want to buy them cheaper so he can re-sell them.
Glad you are OK. And I sure am sorry about the accident and the fact that the driver "got away".

What shape is the tank in?
Man, I am very sorry about the accident. Looked like a great Magna. If you decide to part it out, I would be interested in a few items. Especially, if the front brake reservoir is not damaged, I need one. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and we'll all keep an eye out for another Magna if you are interested.
Derek
The tank is in great shape one little ding hardly noticeable. I started taking it apart if interested I have mustang seats vance and hines pipes with only a small strach on the left side, sissy bar, luggage rack, etc. The engine is still good only 12000 miles if anyone is interest in any or all parts let me know and we will see if we can work something out otherwise I will probable be listing them on ebay soon. The front brake res is not hurt.
I would love to buy the Mustang seats but I know I can't afford them. My front seat has a small tear in it. If you like you can email or PM me what you are asking for them.
Just sent you a private message about the seat and the carbs.
Does the tach still work? I would be interested if it does. I also could use a right rear turn signal
Thanks,
Kale
Holy hell!! how did the forks get bent back that much with just a drop and slide ?? i did similar thing drop and slide at 50 km and forks were fine!! surely you must have hit something to do that or it has been dropped before and the forks had been weakened sort of worrying really to see that extent of damage glad your ok though i broke my leg after my wee skid so you have been very lucky did you hang onto the bike or let it go?
Just a drop and slid didn't hit anything might have been going 35mph, I am pretty sure that it hadn't been dropped before. I stayed with the bike.
