Drivers backrest, good investment for comfort or overrated?
Interesting question and one I considered recently.
This season I finally bought a Mustang Vintage Wide seat for my 97 3rd Gen Magna.
While shopping for best prices I checked out the http://www.cruisercustomizing.com website.
This [cruisercustomizing] website has -extensive- user reviews of the products sold. And the backrest issue is covered pretty well on that products user reviews
The ultimate answer depends on your needs and preferences but check out those reviews; it helped me to decide.
Driver backrests are grrrrrrrrrrreat. I had a KG slider on my V65 and loved having it. It allows you to relax just a little more than before and thus enjoy your ride more. Unfortunately I had to take it off since the Corbin I bought was wider than the KG rails....
Get one, you will like it.
I also have the KG and will NEVER ride without it. Not only for the comfort, but the ability to adjust it kinda like a lumbar adjustment.

I've got one on my bike and I don't even like going 20 miles with out it anymore. It was by far the best mod I put on. Also, when going on long stretches, I can put my feet up on the engine guards (my legs are up by the radiator) and it's like cruising in a Lay-z-boy. I love it!!! Best $200 I ever spent....but I can't remember where I got it...online somewhere.
found the site http://www.accessoryinternational.com/driverbackrest.htm
Let me know if you want pictures and I can email some to you.
the one I am looking at is from the Magna page "Where to find ..."
It will also cover the rip in my seat.
The back pouch can hold my wife's CD player.
