Title: Cleaning tail pipes
Post by: Moja on April 16, 2007, 05:09:44 PM
I'm sure we've all melted goodly portions off the sides and soles of our boots when hunting for that insanely placed pin to lower the sidestand.  Does anybody have a suggested technique/product for safely and easily getting that stuff off the pipes?  Do the pipes need to be cold or hot or somewhere in between at the time?

Thanks!

I usually clean mine with a razor blade, being careful to keep a angle that slides along and cleans off boot rubber.
After getting the majority off I use windex or soap and water.

I USE NEVERDULL!  IT TAKES A BIT OF ELBOW GREASE BUT IT WORKS!  IT IS A COTTON WADDING THAT HAS A CHEMICAL IN IT THAT BRINGS OUT THE SHINE IN MY CHROME AND WORKS TO TAKE THE RUBBER OFF.  I HAVE ALSO HEARD THAT OVEN CLEANER WORKS IF THE PIPES ARE STILL WARM FROM RIDING.....NOT HOT BECAUSE THAT HURTS.

Thanks guys.. the razor blade worked beautifully to get all the rubber off (although it too, took some elbow grease, and maintaining a perfect blade angle.)

I'll go get some Nevr-Dull tomorrow and see if that will take off the dull oxidized-looking haze from some parts of the pipes.
