Hi y'all. I just bought the wifey a '96 Magna. I own an 83 V65 Magna and have been around Maggies since my new 82 V45M. The new gen needs a carb cleaning. The wife likes loud pipes so I scored a set of V&H pipes offa feebay. This question is no doubt beaten to death and I did search but am looking for a more specific answer. Being as I am gonna be in the carbs anyways and doing the pipe changeover - Bone stock '96 with V&H pipes. Shims? #4 washers right? What main jets are recommended. Do I need to change out the needles. I assume not or there would be no need to shim the existing needles. Best starting point for the pilot screws? I've read about the DD jet kit but would just as soon order the jets from Zanotti when I order new stuff for my big Magna. I've got shims out the wazoo already. I see Greg likes to help out new guys and I am just down the road in Canton. :D I saw a post that Greg has a guide to jetting I think. If it would answer my questions, e- mail it to me please.
We are having a V4 weekend get together coming up in May in Leonard, TX. V4hondabbs guys but all bikes are welcome. Any takers? The wife's new Mag will be the 1st new gen Magna I have seen there. Obviously there is a gulf between the 2 groups. Be nice to see us mix it up a bit.
Billy I am holding a wrench session May 5th be glad to help with the carbs and shims etc.
Come on out we would enjoy meeting you!!
That would be cool. I know my daughter is coming from NC and wife has family from all over coming at the same time. I'll look at the timing and get back to you.
I have some tools that might come in handy if you are doing carbs. I have a big ultrasonic cleaner, Carbtune II vacuum synch gauges, even have a Colortune 4 cylinder setup I have never used. Only fits 12mm spark plug holes so may not work on the 3rd gen, I am that new to this bike. I don't know yet.
Hopefully I get an answer on jet sizes for the V&H setup and can show with them in hand.
Billy give Dave Dodge a buzz and order his jet & shim kit, I can adjust it to what has been working best for ya if ya want.
If ya cant make the May 5th wrenching we can get hooked up on any Friday or Saturday..

I don't know if we will be able to go to Leonard or not. but we have been wanting to go there to see the place that sales sidecars. If we do get to go we probably will try to do both. http://www.texassidecars.com/
The weekend of the 5th is no good for me. I have my daughter flying in from NC and my wife's family coming in from all over. I did find out what I needed to know though. 105 main jets. I have those on order and jets for my big Magna too. Both bikes are getting re-piped prior to the V4 BBQ. I guess I will go in alone armed with the manual. It's just the plumbing on the '96 that worries me. Lots more stuff than on the 1st Gen bikes. If it gets too bad I'll roll it onto the trailer and come begging at Greg's house.
I did drop a line to Vance & Hines tech guys for their advice on the jetting. See what they have to say about it.
Whoo Hoo....good to see you here Billy.....
