Has anyone on this site gotten into making the Valkyrie/Magna tank modification?
I'd like to see how much someone is charging to make one of those and see if it's reasonably priced.
3.2 gallons just doesn't last very long. I'd like the 6.3 Valkyrie mod tank installed on my bike but I'm not skilled enough in welding and just general machining to do that task. I can bolt on a part like nobodies business though. :D
So can anyone give some advice or know of any other bigger tanks that will fit my 1996 Magna?

This has been on previous threads, but I'll share with you what I know . . .
When I purchased my magna it had 2 dents on the tank. I initally decided to do the tank mod, and was able to secure a Valk tank off of ebay. However, after putting a pencil to it, it turns out to be a somewhat expensive conversion. I also located the gentleman (Courtney Gibbs) who can do the conversion for you. He is the one who has posted pics on several forums. I emailed him and he sent me some new info along with a price. I think he does great work, but for as few miles as I go, I couldn't justify the $$ to go from 3.6 to 6.1 gallons. Nonetheless, here are the figures I came up with:
$250 for Valk tank (approx)
$75 to ship 2 tanks to Mr. Gibbs
$450 for conversion
$35 to get conversion shipped back
$75 for Valk gas shroud and cap (Valk has recessed area around cap)
$150 for paint
$0 for magna tank (assuming you are willing to send yours off and go tankless until it is done - a month?)

$1035 Total
Again, if you are traveling a lot you might find it worth your money. My magna is a 94 that I got for $3,000 . . . so to put 1/3 of its value in a tank is a little steep (of course I have that same thought every time I fill up at $3.15 a gallon).
However, there is a way to save some money, and that is finding someone locally who can do the work. That will save $100 in shipping, plus they might go down if they do the work and the paint, maybe $500 for both. Then the conversion is down to around $800. Hope this helps. dc
