You guys may be hearing a lot more from me over the next few days, as a pick-up game of basketball has left me bed-ridden.
As if my Magna not starting is bad enough, I landed on someone's foot in an early morning basketball game. As soon as I hit the ground I said (in a unusually calm tone) "I think I broke my leg". I then looked down at my right leg only to find that the sole of my shoe was facing ldue eft. It made and 90 degree angle and you could see my skin strecthed over my leg bone on the right side. I asked someone to pop it out and everyone declined.
The ER in my small town did not have an orthopedic Dr. but Abilene had one so after x-rays and a couple of doses of morphine they sent me there. The first stop was at the dr.'s office where he tried 5 times (in 30 second intervals) to pop my ankle back in. By then the pain medicine was all but gone, and so that made for the most painful experience of my life. He kept saying that if I could relax he could get it back in!
To make a long story longer, we went to the ER in Abilene where the same Dr. doped me up and tried again. After about 20-30 minutes of prying (so I hear . . . I was out) he couldn't get it back in. They ended up taking me to surgery. Apparently a tendon had wrapped around my bone and was preventing it from going back in. That explained the unbelievable pain coming from my toes earlier.
So now I am on bedrest for 2 days and cannot put weight on it for a week. They are saying crutches for about 6 weeks. I have a picture of it before it was fixed, but I don't know if you really care to see it. It is a little disturbing.
But all is not lost, as I am on a steady stream of Vicatin (sp?). Plus people go through days much, much worse than mine was. The other bummer is that I was supposed to go to Cancun in 2 weeks with my wife. It would be our first real trip since our honeymoon 9 years ago. But I am so thankful that we opted for trip insurance!
Anyway, I did put the new (to me) tank and it looks great. The bike won't start, but I hope to have it running about the same time I start walking. We'll see. Anyway, thanks for your support on the motorcycle end. I hope to get to meet some of you guys and thank you in person for all your help.
Until then stay safe, kiss your kids, and thank the Lord. I know I take too much (read: like walking) for granted. dc
I don't know you, but damn do I feel for you. "Ouch!"
Good luck with all that man, and make sure you take it nice and slow. I've known too many people that get better from an injury like that, and simply re-injure the same area weeks later.
What a bummer (sorry I couldn't resist) Sorry to hear about your unfortunate accident hope you recoup quickly. I admire your ("but not bummed out') attitude. Good luck
I quit playing basketball about 18 years ago for that very same reason, along with soccer, yep did it playing soccer as well. Then even loading one of the kids into my then little Ford Ranger king cab rear seats in a car seat, tripped on the seat belt took a rather strange step and found the side of the driveway slab. Yep I have done it 4 times, luckily mine has never displaced which is good for the bone, but not good or the ligaments and tendons, grrr.
I FEEL your pain! Hang in there GO on that Cancun trip!
dc112675 truly sorry to hear that. I am glad you will be ok and you are not too bummed out . Hopefully we can go riding sometime when you and your bike is better.
Not recommended but had a friend in the 80s that would ride his HD with a cast from his right foot to above his knee.
o u c h !
Man that suck hope you are up and going soon!!!!
Reading your story gave me the same feeling as seeing that quarterback snap his leg a few years back. Your postive attitude will work wonders for your healing.
Get well soon.
It must be spreading up and down the eastern seaboard; I was planning on riding my bike to work today but during lunch time basketball yesterday I rolled my left ankle, tweaked my right achilles, and took a knee to knee on my left leg. I feel your pain...but we'll both be playing again shortly, I'm sure; hoop is just too addictive (even at 47). Hang in there.

It will be before then. I haven't forgotten about you so as soon as I can shoot up to Sweetwater we'll sort it out. You can be the moral support
