Title: Hondaline engine guard & forward controls
Post by: magnachic on August 10, 2005, 09:35:17 PM
I'm considering purchasing Hondaline engine guards.  My 1995 Magna has Mapam forward controls.  I'd like some imput from others who have the guards and controls.  Are they compatible and do you feel the engine guard really protects the bike or is just mostly for show.  I'm looking for engine protection, and my hubby says my forward controls already do that.  What are your thoughts???

I have the Hondaline guards on my '96 along with the Mapam forward controls and I have no problems with them at all.  The Hondaline guards blend in well, are built solid and will definately help protect the engine and tank.  Not to discredit your husband but the forward controls will not do squat for protecting anything.   Not too long ago I went to tilt my bike on the sidestand but my dumb-a$$ had forgot to put the sidestand down!  I realized this too late and already had the bike too far over for me to get it back upright so I had no choice but let it drop while trying as I could to ease it down without wretching my back.   Because of the Hondaline guards what could have been a disaster only resulted in a slightly scratched clutch lever.  I highly recommend the Hondaline guards.

Nice looking bike, especially the solid rear shocks. Can you tell me what they are from (another Honda? Model? Cost?).
Thanks.

Greg, those are Honda VTX1800 stock rear shocks.  I picked those up on the Delphi VTX forum for $50 but they can be found pretty readily on eBay for between $50 and $100.  I heard of one guy that just snagged a pair for $25 Buy-It-Now!!!  Why am I never around for those kinds of deals?

They are stiffer than the stock Magna shocks plus I like the covered look as well.  The install is pretty straight forward but you will have to either buy new lower shock bushings or press out the lower ones from your stock shocks and re-use them.  The stock VTX lower bushings are too large.
