OK, I've searched all over the place and found many opinions on the subject so I'm coming home to ask y'all (especially 1st gen V45 owners) what's the "best" tire for my 86 VF700C?
I'm a pretty conservative rider so I don't really need to be able to lay it over on the pegs in the turns, but I want to improve the handling over the Qualifiers that are on her.
I have used 2 types of tires on my V65 and like both very much. Unfortunately I have been told that both have been replaced by a newer model, though you can still find these tires around.
Dunlop D204
Avon Azaros
Both sets rode very well and had great traction. I probably ended up with 7-9K miles on each set. The Avons I have are just about worn out and I will be looking to put the same tires back on.
That is my $0.02
I am a firm believer in the best rubber you can buy. It cost me a broken foot and scratched up bike to learn that lesson. You don't have to be a squid to need great traction. It's that once in a year accident avoidance emergency maneuver where the road surface is subpar that the expensive rubber will save your arse. I run Avon Azaros (now Storms) on my big Magna. Not sure what fits the 700. It has been posted to death on the V4BBS and probably on the SabMag list as well. I love the radials, why go with old technology? There are very decent quality Bias Ply tires out there but Qualifiers/Chin Shengs/Kendas are crap. My .02.
I've dug through the v4bbs posts till I was blue in the face and that's what lead to my current state of confusion. :? Having a hard time finding out what radials will work since none of the companies list radials as correct tires for the 700c, and unfortunately the spec size is a little less beefy than the V65 specs so I can't just go with those.
