Title: Long term report on Cam Chain noise resolved
Post by: Ed Mackessy on August 17, 2007, 11:30:36 PM
Well, it's been 1000 miles and still no noise from the top end. I had to re-time my valves because when I removed the cam chain tensioners and added the pre-load I could not get the tensioner back into the hole it came out of. It seemed that the slide on the chain was too close to the tensioner. I bumped the starter and that allowed me to re-install the tensioner, however, the bike lost it's performance. No zip, even at top end. The shop manuel said loss of power is a valve timing issue. I opened the cover and checked the timing marks and found that the exhaust valves on the front set of cylinders was off one tooth. After I reset the timing the bike is running like the day I bought it. (3rd generation 2003 with 24,000 on it)   :D  :D

I am glad you are getting your problems resolved.  Happy trail to you in Syracuse.

Thanks Luke,
Were running out of time for riding up here in the great white north and I am trying to get in as much as possible. We should have some nice days for leaf peeping, but there is no telling when it will get nasty.

Your brother in Christ.
