Just like many of you, the more accessories I add on my bike, the more stock parts I have left lying around. And while I haven't made any major modifications, the pile of parts in my basement continues to grow. Just off the top of my head, here is a list of parts I have so far (assuming my LED swap is successful):
Foot controls
Seats
Headlight
Tail Light
Blinkers
Handlebars
Risers
Grips
At any rate, what should I do with theses left overs? Should they stay with the bike, or sell them off now? It seems like a lot of bikes for sale have the box of stock parts included with them . . .
When you are looking to buy a bike, how much does the spare stock parts factor into your decision, and how much value does it add?
I like the accessories I currently have on my bike, and really have no desire to go back to stock. When I bought my bike it had after-market exhaust already on, and the stock exhaust was not included. It didn't bother me as I reckon I can only have 4 pipes on at a time (8 would be overkill) . Unless I was unsatisfied with the sound of them (I wasn't) then I might have wanted them. But for me they would only be clutter.
Any thoughts? Thanks, dc
DC, I have tried to hang onto stock parts to help anyone out who may need them in case the unfortunate happens.
Well, if you do decide to sell. I'll buy the seats. =)
Dude! Going to forward your info to someone that just crashed at the SuperMagna meet in NC (he was on a 3rd Gen Magna with several others), as he might want to buy some. We've already been able to take care of the handlebars and some peg stuff, but I think he's got lots of other things he needs. He just got out of surgery two days ago (three breaks in his ankle) and had a plate put in. Mark is his name, good guy too.
He just downshifted right before a turn, hit an invisible dip in the road, and low-sided with him bouncing off the road over the bike. Amazing what duct tape, crescent wrench, a Physical Therapist Magna rider, and a few good mechanics can do to get a bike up and running for 20 miles.
Greg, you're just too noble!
My thought has always been to hold onto the parts for sale time. When/if that time comes, you will more then likely get more total price by taking the bike to stock, then sell the bike and accessories separate. It's more of a pain, but, oh well. Most assessories don't get much of anything extra while on the bike at sale time unless the buyer wants exactly those items.
The prices you'd get for selling the stock parts is much less then the after-market parts.
But all that can change if you need the space/money now.
Rod.
On Craig's list a 3 rd gen Magna owner in Arlington had his bike stolen and striped. He was looking for part to rebuild his bike. I told him to join and see what people have to sale or giveaway. I sold him a brand-new gas cap for cheep.
