Hey guys, I'm looking to make some improvements and it's time for an impartial opinion or two. Is the top end oil mod worth it on a bike with 52000 miles and no significant cam wear? cheap, or not, insurance.
If your bike has line bored cams I don't think you would "have to have" it but it would benefit from having it on there. Cheap add-on that probably will prolong the life of your engine.
What's a line bored cam?
Oops I said that a little wrong, it should be line bored heads. In the pic below the heads that have been line bored will have a half moon shape of rubber built into the gasket where the red marks are. The engine in the pic was an 84 model which was not line bored.
Here's a shot of the rear head Looks like I've got the line bored heads

That is it, think I'll save that for later reference if you don't have any objections.
Anyway back to the oil mod. Can't see where you would go wrong putting one on, I plan on putting one on my 85 V65 asap and the VF1000R already has one. There are a few different versions which you can do. DD has one listed for 250.00 that I would recommend. Does Andrew over at Classic Cycles in Lewisville sell them for DD?
Yep,
There's one on eBay right now.
An ex-coworker in the 80s and 90s went through two engines in his V65. I believe he fixed the oiling on the third engine.
OK So I ordered it last night from Classic Cycles. I'll let y'all know how it goes.... :D
