Title: Throttle cable lube
Post by: MagnaDaddy on November 03, 2007, 11:23:14 AM
Is there any special trick to taking the throttle control apart to get at the top end of the cables for lubricating them?  I see two screws on the bottom and that's it.

I can't put my hands on my manuals must be in a box somewhere from our move.

OK so the original question was lame   I figured out how to get the throttle control open without breaking it but I can't get the cables loose enough to get them out.  I'm thinking I'll have to lube them from the carb end  :x    That's alot more work to get to, so it'll have to wait for some other under the tank project.

I believe someone sells a graphite cable lube kit that shoots it down the cable..  Hopefully someone with more information will speak up.

You have to disconnect the cables at the carbs to be able to remove them from the throttle control.

You should be able to lube the cables from the top without disconnecting the cables.  Spray some on the cable, work the throttle back and forth.  Repeat until you get tired...

I plan to take mine completely off to spray some cleaner through them and then relube before reinstalling them.  Mine are slow to spring shut.  I think they are gummed up.

Good luck.

I picked up one of those kits Greg mentioned which clamps on the end of the cable and seals it so the lubricant is forced down inside the cable with "no mess".  I'll probably unhook it all when I get under the tank next time and lube them from the top.
