My tire guy has started using Dyna Beads inside the tire instead of wheel weights to balance new tires he sells. I deferred and told him to bubble balance my tire with lead until I know more about the Dyna Beads.
Here is my question: Since Avon doesn't care to put a balance mark on the Venom Rs (this is for the Valk) the amount of weight they take can be hit and miss. The new tire I had put on today took 3 oz. of lead weight. This is not unusual, as some of my previous Avons have taken quite a bit of weight. The Dyna Bead specs call for 2 oz. of beads to balance up to a 240 tire. HOW can 2 oz. of beads spread out inside the tire balance out a tire that takes 3 oz. of lead all in one spot???
If I can satisfy that conundrum in my mind I might try them.

Have you confirmed "bubble balance" to "spin balance"?
My preference has always been to insure a computer spin balance over any other type although I have used bubble many years back. Probably pretty close but would depend on the human doing the work.
To your inqusitive question. The beads wgt would be balanceing from further out than the rim wgt as in leverage balance would take less wgt. Does that make sense or am I backwards?
Good question and looking for brainstorm answers. Would be a good question you can ask the bead makers and see what answer you receive.
So have him spin up with the beads in. That should be a good test I would think.
the beads work great in bike tires; I have even used them in over sized jeep tires with good luck. When used in the big jeep tires it takes a few seconds for the beeds to find the location they are required to be to balance out the wheel and tire assembly. In a bike tire, it is almost not noticable at all sense the beeds find where they need to be a lot faster.
I like the idea of spinning the tire up w/o beads than with beads for a test.

we have a local shop here that has started using the beads and seeing as i spend as much time there as i do at my other job i have not heard anything about them at all
Thanks everyone for the input. I have decided to give them a try after doing a lot of reading on their tips page. I agree with those who have opined that the beads being further from the axis would make them more effective ounce per ounce than wheel weights mounted on the rim. Also of concern is this systems admitted inability to compensate for lateral imbalances (where weight is needed on one edge, inside vs outside, of the rim but not the other), but these types of imbalances are more common in low profile tires. I think a motorcycle tire is about the likeliest candidate for success.
The other thing is that I remove my wheels and take them to the tire guy already anyhow. I have also been pulling car tires and remounting them on the rims with just spoons or screwdrivers since my early teens (35 years) so swapping a MC tire even without a tire machine is not the frustrating task it is to some. The only thing stopping me from buying my tires online and mounting them myself is the expense of a good balancing machine. When I mounted the car tire on the back of #2 Valk, I tested the balance on the axle with jack stands but I wouldn't want to rely on this method for all my tire changes.
Anyhoo, I just ordered the 8 oz package (two oz per tire) @ $11.99 and an extra 2 oz package @ $4.99 and splurged for the squirt bottle and tube to install through the valve stem. Total was about $25 with shipping to get me started with both bikes.
I'll let ya'll know how they work. My tire guy as part of his sales pitch last week, said they would cure any high speed wobble or head shake. If they indeed dampen this disturbing attribute, I may be back in warp speed territory again!!

Well there is always my Ten minute Tire changes LOLOLOLOLOL
You are an inspiration to us all, Allen!! LOLOL :P  :P

In the July Issue of Roadbike they did a test of the Dyna Beads, he tested on a tire balancing machine and said they recommend them for balancing. Just an FYi
Been thumbs up on my Car Tire!!! Allowed me to mount it myself, and not having to worry about having some type of balancing jig and purchase weights.
Well I am going to the darkside myself I have found a discount tire by the house that has 2 BF Goodrichs TA tires in the 155/80/15 range so when I get one he will have one left I will mount it up and be riding out to MOOTMag see ya all there come on the 10th LOL

Allen, Let us know what you think in the DarkSide Thread.. Are you going to use Dyna Beads?
Found 2 places in Houston that carry them yeah I may give them a try !!
Let me know where, Allen, I need some also and will be in Houston this weekend but not on the bike.
I know there is a place in Humble.
