Title: meter for monitoring battery usage
Post by: rjb/AKA Bob Barram on December 04, 2007, 10:42:32 AM
What kind of voltmeters are you using mounted on your motorcycle? I am looking at buying one since my battery issues have me confused/worried. I see a nice one from Kuriyakin that gives a couple of read outs and it is compact.
Let me know what you have.

Bob I have seen the one you mentioned used on a few bikes to day and most if not all say it is a worthy unit...

After my alternator left me stranded in Colorado summer before last I decided a voltage monitor of some kind was a necessity.  It would have allowed me to limp home with minimal electrical draw (pull fuses for all loads except spark module) while keeping an eye on battery condition.  When it got low, I could have bummed a charge somewhere.

Anyway, this is what I have: http://electricalconnection.com/meters_indicators/04101.htm  I have mine on the fairing, but it could be hidden under a side cover or in the head light bucket with the LED facing up where you could see it.  It indicates as follows: RED - less than 11.5 volts, AMBER - 11.9 to 11.5 volts, GREEN - 12 volts and up

Some of the Valk guys like the Big Bike Parts five function voltmeter: http://www.hondadirectlineusa.com/stores/product.asp?pid=2475&str=7&ID=594246180

Thanks Greg and Curtis. I like the one from Hondaline, the wide voltage with digital read out.
