Title: In desperate need of V30 wiring advice
Post by: EnglishMagna on December 08, 2007, 04:33:50 PM
Help !!!! I've recently separated the multi connector that runs from the right hand side of my engine to the loom and when I put it back together it fell bits, all the wires came out. I've put them back in what looks like the correct order but the bike will not start now it just spins over and backfires occasionally.

I was wondering if there was a kind V30 owner that would look at their bike and tell me if I have the wires the right way round.

I have the wires connected as follows.

The white braided one with a blue sleeve on the engine side going to the white and blue plastic coated one on the loom side.

The yellow braided on on the engine side going to the yellow plastic one on the loom

The white braided one on the engine side going to the white plastic one on the loom

The blue braided one on the engine side going to the blue plastic one on the loom

The black braided one with the blue and red sleeve on the engine side goes to the blue and red plastic one on the loom side.

I'm certain this is the correct way but the bike will not even attempt to start so if any users could just have a quick look at their bike to make sure I have it all right it would be greatfully appreciated. The wires in question come from the right hand crank case and the connector is under the rear of the tank and they are for the oil pressure switch and the pulse generator.

The only one I have is at the back of the Clymer manual that I downloaded in PDF form from this link

Thanks to both of you for taking the time to check on your own bikes I look forward to your replies, it's frustraiting to say the least that it won't start even more so because I had to miss out on a charity bike run today that I'd promised to take my daughter on  :(

:-D It lives  :-D after a bit of advice I've managed to get it running, it turns out I had 2 wires the wrong way round, the white one with the blue sleeve on doesn't go to the blue and white wire on the loom it goes to the plain white one and vice versa  :?

I swapped them round and it fired up first time, however for some reason it does appear to be revving high on tick over 4000 rpm despite me touching nothing but wires but I'll soon sort that.

Now the reason I started messing with the harness was to cure an intermittent fault. Every so often the rev counter would become eratic then it would stop working then it would only run on 2 cylinders. Now there is 2 spark control units one for each pair of cylinders and the one that controls numbers 1 & 3 cylinders also controls the rev counter so I assume that it is the problem. Either the unit is on it's way out or it's a poor connection. Has anybody else had this problem?

I do now thanks to you. Thank you sir! As some of you know already(the ones that made the wrench session) Charles brought me a VF500F Interceptor. Depending on my daughter's bf's fathers decision, it will go to a young racer and will most likely end up on the track. Aaaah another knee dragger  :-D

Yes.....had a spark unit fail on 82 V45.  Swap the spark units....if your tach works OK without the erratic behavior, it is almost certainly a bad spark unit or connection associated with it.  They can be a bit pricey if purchased from Honda.....I replaced one of mine with a salvage unit a number of years ago and it is still working fine.  Knock on wood!
