I've got a '97 and I'm looking to clean up the look of the back of my bike. I'd like to get rid of the plastic tail light/turn signal assembly all together and get the tail light to sit further in the rear fender and turn signals that wouldn't stick out wider than the fender.
Any ideas or pictures of custom lights you've used? I'd like not to have to fabricate a new mounting bracket.
Well cant speak for the tail light, but as for the rear signals, I pickup a Cobra rear signal adapter plugs (http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=ZZ32090) and remove the turn signal rubber stalk.. I then carefully drill the plug and tap for a 8mm x 1.25 bolt. Voila you have a shorten rear turn signal that is sleaker and clean appearance.
I also used the Cobra adapter for my turn signals. I also have the Bilski taillight/license plate mod and the Electrical Connections run/turn/brake light modification.
Rod...
Here is what I did . . . it is an LED light for a Fatbob. It took a little bit of work but I like it much better than the stock "Box" on the back. I have some instructions that I found somewhere on how to do the minor fabrication. Let me know if you are interested. dc
The camera did not do a good job at all showing just how bright the tail light and the turn signals really are. The tail-light has a running light that is always on (low) and then a bright light that comes on when the brake is engaged. The turn signals are also dual filament LED's, and I have the low lights come on when the brake is engaged, and the bright setting is for when the turn signals are on.

It is a little difficult to see, but the turn signals are mounted on the struts. I like where they are except I have since contemplated adding saddle bags which would mean I would need to move them. I would probably try to fabricate some type of bracket that would put them back near the tail light.

DC,
I would be very interested in knowing how you mounted the Fatbob tail light. I've done the shortening of the turn signals, but I'm now thinking of mounting two LED strips back by the license plate for turn signals.
