Title: V65 Seat Replacement
Post by: Smoked U on April 29, 2008, 10:12:20 AM
I'm getting some major complaints from my female riders about the seat on my V65. It is an aftermarket Travelcade and they are constantly sliding forward into me or if they push back constantly against the footpegs the back of the seat riser is pounding their tailbone and they can't get any support from the sissybar.

It doesn't appear that Mustang makes a seat for this bike. I know that several of you have Corbin seats and I got the name of a guy who will resculpt an existing seat to make it more comfortable.

Help me out here guys. What is actually available now and where do I get it.

Resculpting is not that hard, if your pretty handy with an electric carving knife and a four and half inch grinder. I'm redoing the passenger part of a Corbin for a friend. He really likes his part but she is not at all happy with her half. I wouldn't cut up an expensive aftermarket seat the first time, but you might try reworking an old stock seat. Shouldn't be hard to find one of those around pretty cheap. I usually end up spending around a hundred or less having the seat recovered after I'm finished. If it is a small mod sometimes the original cover still looks good put back on it. Just out of curiosity how much does the guy charge that resculpts the seats, and does it include new upholstery or does he reuse the old?

So what is wrong with them sliding into you?   :D  I just bought an old seat for mine that I am fixing to try and redo myself.  I will be interested in seeing what everyone posts here.

For one thing, I haven't learned how to ride two up with me facing the back of the bike yet!

As Charles mentioned, you can reshape the stock foam for a bit more of a saddle for which ya sit in and not on.  Some folks even core out the foam and replace with a gel insert (available from places such as saddleman etc) or dense more supportive foam.

Okay.

I'm going to give Jerry a shot at my Travelcade seat that is now on my V65 to see what he can do for it.

Check out his website at americannasoftseats.com

He says he can rework the passenger section of my seat for $ 79.00 plus the return shipping (scoop out the seat/cut down the back to allow the passenger to set back and down to eliminate the sliding as well as give them a gel insert to ride on). If this works it will be a deal.

I'll let everyone know what happens in a few weeks once testing is complete.

Dave....I would be very interested in hearing the report and seeing the photos of the extensive testing you will be conducting after you get the seat back...I mean, ya know....since I might consider a similar mod to the seat on my V65.  Not that I get very many complaints from female passengers or anything...   ;-)
