Sorry guys for posting a question about a Shadow but it may be a show stopper for me getting to MOOTMAG. My daughter and I went riding tonight. After we ate dinner and started back her bike developed a problem. I got on it and with the clutch all the way out the bike would not move. I adjusted the clutch cable all the way in and with the lever all the way out the bike would go but I could still feel it slipping when I got on it. But I was able to ease it home. The bike only has 9000 miles on it. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong and how to get it fixed in a hurry so we can make it to OK? Please! Please! Please! Thanks for your help!
First I would drain the oil and change the filter and put in MOTORCYCLE specific oil and see if that helps any at all.
Also check the oil for particles and or debris in it.
Something is not allowing the clutch mechanism to fully release, I would trace that and see where the hangup is.
If there is a rod that runs from one side of the motor to the clutch, maybe the Screw twist arm is binding and not fully releasing.
If your clutch cable goes to your right side on the clutch cover it will have a rod that runs straight down into the clutch cover. If you can't see what the issue is you might have to pull the cover and see whats up.
Check your service manual or parts diagram to see how it functions.
You didn't list a year or size. Are you out of warranty?

I once lost one of the 3 screws on the left side chrome cover (the forward most screw) and when I engaged the clutch it actually pushed out on the cover (flexing it) instead of pushing the rod toward the clutch. Had no idea how I lost it but I now check it as part of regular maintenance. It was one of those Dealer only screws..... I think I spent about $11 to get that extra milimeter that the local hardware stores lacked.
Also check the cable closely as it could be trying to fray and limiting full travel.
