Post by: thegoochking on July 16, 2008, 02:58:06 PM
Does anyone here ride their magna with no front fender on? ive been wondering how it would look with it off but dont know if it is legal or could cause any type of damage.

I would be concerned about damage to the radiator, at least.  Maybe even the underside of the tank near the front.

I kinda like my front fender -- matches the tank, side panels, and rear fender. :-)

I painted my side panels myself (lost the old ones due to hardened grommets), using info I found here:

http://www.manoian.net/jeep/amber_fire_pearlcoat_paint.html

Of course, I didn't set up an elaborate dust free environment like he did, but simply painted them in my backyard on a still day after watering the grass.  They came out rather nice, if I do say so myself.

Biggest expense was matching the custom paint on the rest of the bike.  Local auto paint shop did it for me, and the total, including the clear coat, paint loaded with metal flakes for the ghost flames, thinner, etc. came to ~$170.

If you have don't have to match perfectly (like you have a plain black color scheme, for example) it would be a  whole lot cheaper.

i want to leave it black but put matt dark grey flames on it. So the paint is shiny everywhere but where the flames are, and i want the black shiny paint to have like a dark red chameleon style effect to it. Ive been quoted 1800 to3000 for that paint job here.

No front fender would throw stuff such as water, dirt and road grime in all directions including up in front of you.  You would probably end up with a dirty windhsield, faceshield or teeth.  :)

Check out this guys prices.  I have seen his work since he is about 10 miles from me.  He does good work.
As soon as I can get $400 he is going to paint my tank and both side covers with what ever scheme I choose and color.  www.splashofkolor.com/Index.htm

Also the front fender mount is more often than not a stabilizer for the front forks.  Take it off and you will get some wobble at speed.
