Title: 84 Magna VF700C Carb probs?
Post by: meighty on August 20, 2008, 05:59:26 PM
Howdy. New Magna rider here. I Just picked this bike up the other day. It's the oldest road bike I've had. Everything else has been newer. I bought from and old fellow in the valley. I live in the high desert. He was sitting around 1500 feet above sea level and I'm about 3500. The bike ran well there. Started, idled, took off with no problems.

When I got home. The bike wouldn't idle or even start very well. I have since adjusted the idle screw on the underside of the carbs so the bike now starts and idles correctly.

The problem comes when I try and take off. I give it a some gas and let the clutch out the bike starts go and then dies. If i give it a lot of gas everything is fine. It's super slow up to about 3/3.5k and then it takes off like normal. The throttle response also lags. It's not snappy at all.

My thoughts are clogged carb/carbs. I just want a second opinion before I put my bike new old bike out of commission for a few days.

Thoughts?

I suspect idle jets are in need of cleaning.  As well as a need for an adjustment on the pilot jets.  While your at it since its new to you, change out fuel filter, and all fluids would be my recommendations.

CONGRATS on the acquisition!

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Know where I can find an owners manual online? I was able to find the one for the 94 version.

Thanks!

Adam

Go to the FAQ Section of this Forum. Under the Manual heading click on the second link. There are a bunch in there and I believe the shop manual you need. If your on dial-up it will take some time. If you have a problem I can DL the manual and send it to via CD.

Thanks! I found that that last night and was downloading all night. I was only downloading at 9-12Kb a sec. So 311mb took awhile. This was exactly was I was looking for. If files need to be re-hosted somewhere. Let me know. I've got tons of space with tons of bandwidth. I have about 7000GB of transfer a month.  :D

Another quick question. I'm a tall fellow and I need a place for my long legs. Any ideas on where I can find a set of hwy pegs? I have a few tools and welder laying around hehe...
