Hey,
One thing that has been bugging me (possibly unwarranted) is that my exhaust temps feel different. the two top pipes have a higher temperature then the bottom set of tail pipes...between 6 and 12 degrees difference. the left side overall is cooler than the right side. by about 6-8 degrees I checked with a thermocouple at idle right after startup and watched and checked for about 10 minutes and the differences in exhaust gas temp stayed pretty steady. what does that mean?
thanks,
Jess
edit- added temp differences
Even though there is a cross over between the top and bottom muffler to keep back pressure equal I would think it is still because the mufflers are closer to the heads and there is quite a bit more air flow on the lowers comsidering they are up front. the rear headers are tucked in behind the engine with less air flow. Now take into consideration that my theory is based strickly on SWAG :D
*looks up swag in urban dictionary* ohhhhhhhh.. are you talking air flow over the pipes? or through the pipes? unfortunately my digital multimeter doesn't have an exhaust pressure gauge... the bike runs good. it has a little stumble in it but I think thats because i installed a K&N without the shims for the needle jets. I noticed the temp difference before i did that i just got around to digging up the thermocouple today. hrm *looks for excuse to take bike apart* 8)
Well I have seen on my personal bike and on MANY other Magna's, if you let em sit for much, the left rear carb will clog off its slow speed jet first. When you start the bike and let it idle that cylinder will actually be fuel starved and wont be running. ON mine I could lay my hand on the muffler at the rear top muffler and it would be cool while the other 3 were getting hot to the touch. Bring idle up slowly and you can actually hear it come to life..
Seafoam in every tank and RIDE! I usually for the first couple tank fulls go double strength the cans recommended then after that down to recommended. Usually by cans end it is better..
As for the lower mufflers running cooler than the top, that is probably due to the front cylinder exhaust are MUCH longer allowing for more heat discipation I would guess.
Well I've got the seafoam so i'll see if that changes anything... don't know if there is really evena problem, we'll see how she is after the shim install... hope they come tomorrow,...
