Title: Need help with shadow problem
Post by: Jamtndll on August 22, 2008, 09:21:18 PM
I have a friend who has a 700 shadow.  The problem is when it warms up it quits running.  It starts easy, and run well until it warms up then it just stalls out.  Anyone have an idea what may be causing this?
Thanks,

When that happens, have you checked for spark? Does it sound like it's trying to start? What year of Shadow?

Check to make sure the choke linkage is actually moving the choke (or enrichment valve) at the carbs.  If it is on choke all the time, it could act as you describe.

It sounds as if the fuel enrichment valves are not working or may be stuck open.

Here is what Dan says:
Thanks, Jim. Here's the scoop:

1984 Shadow 700
Getting spark, has gas, etc.
Starts cold; won't start or idle well when hot. Mechanic says butterflies do not open in unison; said they fixed that; then it started acting up again. I bought a Clymer manual and am going to tear into it myself when I get back from Kenya and Russia at end of Sept.

Hope this helps I will pass on the other information.  Thanks.

I know I sound like a broke record, but could it have a cracked diaphragm or a slider stuck open? I have had this problem on a couple of bikes with the same symptoms.
