My baby is really starting to backfire and run rough. I think I need a carburator overhall. I have to use choke to start and she is hard to warm up. Once warm she runs find with the exception of backfiring when slowing down. If anyone is willing to help me on some Sat. morning I would appreciate it. 9/27 would be a good sat. for me. YOu let me know what Sat would be good for you and I will see if I can make arangements to be off. I am in East Texas (Tyler Area)
Thanks,
Jim
You know what 9/27 looks good for me too. I am off that weekend let me know what you need !!!!
I just need to know what to order from DD for the carbs. I can get that ordered today. And where you want to do this. We can do this at my house but my toolset is incomplete right now.
Thanks,
I would gladly have it at my house if you like I will be off that weekend I live in Conroe so might be a little drive but we could have a wrench session for that and other things if nybody else jumps in !!! Or I can pack up the tools and come out there.
Ken "MagnaDaddy" in Hutto is planning to come to my place sometime soon to sync some carbs. I would like to install Progressive Springs in my front fork, but haven't a clue as to how to do it.
I have a mercury stick, lift (with cradle for 3rd gen), shop air, and an adequate tool supply. What I don't have is a garage. -- only three car carport equipped with air and power.
So, if either or both of you want to come here, you are welcome to do so. I hosted a "wrench session" once, and got several folks to show up, even though none of us had any wrenching to do. We did enjoy lunch at The Salt Lick barbecue about 5 miles from my home, and a fine BS session. I would be pleased to host again, but would appreciate the connivance of experienced wrench heads.
It would require both you guys to travel, so if you prefer to flip a coin and do it at one of your places, that is OK too. Just let me know.
Not intending to step on your toes Allen or Lawrence......I will tip toe and throw my hat in here.
I don't mind holding a wrench session either but I might be working on one of my bikes along with others. I do have an 01 we can practice tearing down.
Jim, it is always good to have a wrench session. But, until that time arrives try running a can of Seafoam through the engine. I have a 3rd gen magna and that seems to do a lot of good for me. It is available at walmart and autozone. Follow the capacity directions on the can. For my 3 gallon tank I put in about 2.5 ounces for each fill up.

But $2 cheaper at Walmart!
Well actually it worked itself out. Someone made me an offer I could not refuse. I am picking up my new 98 magna next sunday the 21st. If you are going to have the wrench session I will be there buy hoperfully I will not have any work to do myself. I will try to send a pic soon of the new bike.

That will make you a nice bike Jim. Congrats
That's a nice looking bike, congrats!
Jim, I am going to bite on this.
What kind of an offer did they make you? Are you trading in your other?
A local guy offered me $600 more than what I paid for my V45. So I sold it. I ended up paying 4K for the 98. It has alot of extras on it. Now I just have to hope it survives IKE. hehe
Nice Seat and spare Tank.. I hope you like some long distance riding, because that baby is ready to roll!!!
Did I hear the Iron Butt ride calling you???
Congrats Jim! That is a sweet Magna. So...... I dont know how you set up a Sunday pickup but while your here if you wanna try to set up a lunch or something (PIE) I am sure some other MOOTsters will come out of the woodwork. Need directions to the dealer???? It's right next door to Hooters that has special bike parking.
The lady who owns it is going to take it back to her house. I am going to pick it up there.
lunch (pie) sounds good. She lives in Houston. I will not be riding her home. I will have to trailor her.
Looks like the urgent wrench session is off and a BBQ and pie gathering is on. That looks like a very nice bike. There is a lot of extras on it.
You can give Robert a run for his money on Who has more fuel capacity.
I especially covet the black and blue scallop paint job..
Gotta agree that's one sweet Maggie
Nice job Jim.
The blue and black is one of my favorite stock color combinations on the 3rd generation bike.
You got a lot of nice extras that enhance the looks of the motorcycle. I look forward to seeing it in person one day up here in our 'hood
I hope Ike did not get my bike. I have not been able to get a hold of the owner to make plans to pick it up. I am pretty excited about it also.

If he won't come to our 'hood soon enough, I'm sure I can find a willing participant or two to ride out to Van for lunch!

I live just about 3 or 4 miles from the dealership and if what I have seen from my driving around yesterday and today is typical of what the rest of the Katy area got, your bike should be fine, as long as it was garaged.
I'd be interested to know how the bike handles with that extra tank full that high. That is a fancy fuel selector setup on that.
Tom
Ok Ike left my bike alone. I have to make other arrangements for pick up though. I dont think I can make it on Sunday. I will let you guys know when I will be down. I may have to ask one of you to pick it up for me until I can make it down there.
OK guys, here is a thought for your evaluation:
IF two folks from the Houston area want to come to the Hill Country for a fun Saturday, they could ride Jim's new prize here. Jim could snag a ride or take Southwest Air. I will pick Jim up at the Austin airport. We could meet at my place, where Ken will hopefully be through syncing his carbs.
We can then retire for lunch at The Salt Lick, about five miles from here:
http://www.saltlickbbq.com/
It is then a short, sweet ride through the bottom to Wimberley, where we can get dessert at The Wimberley Pie Company:
http://www.wimberleypie.com/
If folks are game there are a number of cool back roads accessible from there for an hour or so ride before you start home.
The Houston guys would need to ride at least one bike two-up to home.
If you guys are up for it, say on Sept 29, we can post it as a new event to get everyone's attention -- call it "Back Roads and Barbecue". I expect several from Central Texas region would show up.
So when are y'all planning a wrench session? And where? Cuz I'd like to come just to learn if nothing else.

Cmon Tom, I'm sure your ridden with your passengers legs around your waist... :? .. only because they were scared of those hot pipes!
I think I have worked it out. I am leaving here around 5 Sat. morning. I will be in Houston around 9. Pick up the bike in my truck and come home. I will get home aroun 2. That is the time I have to go to work on Sat. I do want to come back and meet the HH gang. (Houston Hood). The next time I would have to be able to do that would be October 4th. Maybe we can do Iragan's ride that weekend. I can get a hotel and stay overnight somewhere and come back on Sunday. Maybe I can talk some of the others up here to come down also.
October 4 works for me! Any other takers?
Tomorrow I will post a new thread for this ride if I get one or two others interested weekend of Oct. 4th.
Lawrence, I'm ready for BBQ, Pie, and backroads. Sounds good.
Rick Frankenberger
I have to work every Saturday in Oct. Any chance for a Sunday?
David, the only female passenger that has been on my bike lately is my daughter. :-? She wants my bike when I am finished with it even with those Hot pipes! Wish I could find a sweet young thing to ride with me the way you suggest!!!
