Title: Paint Color Code
Post by: TLRam1 on September 08, 2008, 01:13:10 AM
Does anyone know the color code for engine paint on a 3rd gen? Honda doesn't sell the paint and I forgot to ask if they have a code, something tells me they wouldn't know.

Getting the paint code from honda was no problem. The problem I found every paint supply I've ever talked to said the same thing Honda's code is propritary, it won't cross over to anyone else's color codes. They can scan the color off you bike and get so close you can't tell, but they can't mix it using Honda's code.

I may be painting my motor back to original, so I wanted to stay with something close. Sounds like trial and error Charles.

You can buy the paint from Honda but it's higher than a cat's back. The paint store I use has a hand held scanner they can take out side and hold up the paint your trying to match.

I tried Honda Charles. the parts guy told me that can't get the engine paint. You may have a better parts guy. I failed to ask for a color code but as you mentioned, mixing the code to a color will be different. I could take a fin off and match the best I can.

If you can't find someplace with a color scanner, let me know I'll take my bike up to my supplier and have him scan mine and I'll send you the code that use can use anywhere.

Charles,

What paint does your paint guy have for engine cases? I would think it needs to be heat resistant to 500 degrees. VHT may have some but there site is down.

In the morning I will have my motor media blasted and ready for paint.

David, thanks for the sites but those are more for frame and gas tank colors, I am looking for engine color.
