Title: Starter question...
Post by: Weinercat on October 10, 2005, 10:24:56 AM
I finnished the State run class in Ill and they used 200 cc bikes (yamaha's). These allowed you to start them in gear if you had the clutched pulled. My 1983 Magna did not come with an owners manual so I do not know if it is just mine or if all Manga v45 only allow you to start them in Neutral. Please please let me know. Thanks in advance.

:!:  -- If any one has a 1983 v45 magna owners manual please let me know I'll buy it.

There is a safety switch on the sidestand that will not allow the bike to start if in gear and the sidestand down.
Might check to see of it needs to be cleaned or replaced.

On 1st gen Magnas one can start with side stand- center stand up or down,  in neutral with clutch engaged, or with clutch disengaged and trans. in any gear, to start.

Hello. I still have an issue with the 83 Magna only starting in neutral with the clutch put in. Has any one delt with a bad clutch diode or or clutch switch? I just recently bough the Haynes manual and was trying to pin down the problem.  Any help would be great!!
Thanks in advance

I have a factory service manuel and looking at the circuit the starter relay is grounded thourgh the clutch or the neutral
switch ....so if it starts in neutral only I would say that you have a problem in the clutch not grounding the relay when pulled in.......
