Title: Correct Hondaline P/N For 3rd Generation Magna Backrest?
Post by: Sledge Hammer on September 24, 2008, 09:32:44 PM
Can anybody confirm if the correct P/N for the Hondaline backrest for the VF750C is 08F75-MZ5-A00? I have the Hondaline brackets, and if the luggage rack is the same as for the Shadow 750 Spirit, it would seem the backrest interchanges as well.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Okay, for those that might be interested and do not yet know, I have finally been able to confirm by Honda's documentation (not the conflicting information from retailers) that the Hondaline OEM part numbers for the 3rd Generation Magna are as follows:

Stay Kit (aka Backrest/Rack Brackets) -- P/N 08F75-MZ5-100

Back Rest -- P/N 08F75-MZ5-A00

Rear Rack -- P/N 08L42-MZ5-100

Note that I got this information from the instruction sheet for the Hondaline stay kit I bought off eBay this week.
The same backrest is sold on Cruiser Customizing as only fitting the Shadow Spirit 750DC. They claim the rack only fits the Shadow Spirit 750 C2 and the Magna. Not surprised, really -- in my one and only purchase from CC, they didn't exactly dazzle me with brilliance or moxy, so I doubt they are going to sweat the details on fitment accuracy.

HondaParts-Direct.Com carry the same item, but do not tell you on their web site about the fitment, opting for a U-Guess-It approach. That's okay, too, because for the difference in what they and CC charge, I'm willing to do the homework myself.

when you say backrest, do you mean the pad that the passenger leans on? if you need one, i have an unused one i bought from honda that came with the brackets that it bolted to. i swapped the backrest pad out for one from my seat manufacturer (not corbin, the other one i forgot who makes it)

Perry, if he doesn't want the pad, I do.  Mine is patched with plastic electrical tape where I tore the black cover when I dropped the bike unloading out of my pickup truck at MOOTMAG 5.  I would like to replace it if the cost is not too high.  Honda dealer pricing is, by definition in this case, too high... :-)

Chad, thanks for the offer, but I'll step aside for Lawrence since all he needs is the pad. I need the whole assembly, so looks like I'll be placing an order with Honda of Shadyside (aka The Magna Store) -- best price as shipped to the door I have yet found.

Zo... until we meet again and the case is solv-ed. (clicks heels together, spins around, and marches into wall next to door)
