Title: Tire Changer
Post by: TLRam1 on October 24, 2008, 12:56:43 AM
I have 6 tires that need changing, soooooo

I bought a Harbor Freight tire changer with the motorcycle adapter. In addition, I will not use the HF bar, ordered today the No-Mar Bar, Static Balancer and the Yellow Hand. The No-Mar bar is suppose to work easier and will not scratch rims. A balancer I would make would probably cost me 50 dollars or so and time I don't have, the No Mar is 99 + Ship.

I ordered spoke weights for the old bikes and weights for the Magna but the cross reference number did not prove to be the weights I want for the Magna. I will order more weights, hopefully the type I want. I didn't know weights were so expensive, they have to be the "clip type" for the center ridge of the rim.

I will mount the changer in this trailer when needed with bolts and wing nuts and see how this setup works.

Hey Terry;
If I have a flat, you won't mind coming by and helping me with a patch job with your mobile set-up, right??  Think of the $$$ I'll save!!!

Terry, that is the exact setup that I wanted for years but would never part with the money.

You wanted the trailer huh..... (http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa214/TLRam1/Smilies/icon_crackup.gif)

It should be nice Curtis, we will have to wait and see. Total cost including shipping is about 377.00. My brother in Waco is spitting the cost with me, makes it a little easier. We've talked about this for sometime, bitting the bullet was a matter of time....and the time came with many tire changes I need to do.

HF Changer on Sale 108.00 - (inc. tax, including MC attachment)

No-Mar Bar             99.00 - ship

No-Mar Balancer      99.00 - ship

Yellow Hand (thing) 36.00 - ship

Shipping 3 items     33.00 approx.

Curtis you have probably researched this but .......For the ones that might have an interest

You can get the HF changer (pickup, it will fit in your car) and No-Mar Bar I would guess delivered 225.00. Go to Academy to purchase 4 bearings used for skates (low resistance) mount to a plate, mount the plate to a couple of upright 2X4's or other structure. You have a balancer for cheap.

I might be able to dig up a photo on a balancer.

Here is one from the Adv Site, he used sliding door roller bearings.

Yep, that's why I will continue to do tires the cheap (hard) way and put nice scratches in my wheels that won't polish out.  :-?  I used to pay my tire guy $15 mainly because I had no way to balance them..................then he started using Dyna Beads!!   I also got tired of driving all the way to Van.  Eric Howell is a good guy to deal with and his tire prices are fair (not much more than internet) but it's over an hour drive one way for me.  Besides, it can be dangerous to leave the house.  I went there once for a rear tire for my Valk and bought a 3rd gen Magna.

Christmas  8-)

Here it is, the rest of the boxes arrived this morning. I picked up the HF items, tire changer and MC adapter.

This is what No-Mar includes with there bar, care package of sorts. Extra Tips, Tire Spray lube, Tire Gel Lube, DVD, handle for the Bar and I purchased the Yellow Hand for a Helping Hand!

This is what was in the boxes. I had to fasten the feet on the changer and that was about it. Balancer is light (thought it might be heavy to carry, I like it!), the Bar is heavier and the tips larger than I thought (good), the red car tire changer is what you get for auto tires, MC adapter is on the floor and fits on top of the car changer. The 2 silver rods at the bottom of the photo I haven't figured out yet. I think I have it now, the silver rods go down through the center of the tire for you to use with the Mount/Dismount Bar.

Here is the MC adapter mounted on top for you to do MC tires. What I failed to order was The Guy to operate this contraption and do the work.....where's Allen....oh yeah, playing with his tugboat.  :-P
