I was considering a Dyna ignition for my Magna, but after looking around, then calling Dyna, they are no longer making them.
If you can find one, good luck, as I suspect very few dealers/distributors actually stocked them.
Rod...
Was there any particular advantage of the Dyna ignition over the stock set-up?
Better timing curves, several to choose from, settings for rpm cut-off.
Well, there goes that idea! :x Maybe Chad will sell his...
if they stopped making them, who makes them now?
That would be, NoFreakingBody Inc.
:-P
Now THERE is something for the electronic gurus on here to make!

If it were profitable to manufacture and offer this module, it would not have been discontinued. Think I will pass...
guess thats how it goes.
Maybe somehting like this can be modified to work.. not sure but it's a thought.. also, make sure to check other distributors, like bikebandit, phat perfomance, etc. they make old stock that they want to get rid of.

Chad, thanks for the input. I wasn't even sure if I wanted a Dyna, as the standard Magna power is definitely good. But something happens to me when I'm told I can't have it ! ;-) I had to find a Gunfighter when I found out that those were only being made to-order....
I did check several suppliers, Phat, CruiserCustomizing, Dennis Kirk, and several other googled dealers. Also checked a few of the distributors from Dyna's web site, and emailed a few eBay vendors. As I had suspected, no one stocked any Magna Dyna's, they all ordered from Dyna as needed.
As for the other dyna product, I don't think I want to go quite that far. Thanks for the tip though.
BTW, I think I have bought one from one of the members of the other Magna forum.
Rod.
Then what is this?

I should have been clearer in my original post. This is a Dyna 3000 for the 3rd Gen Magna (94-03).
I thought Dave Dodge has some ignition module for the 3rd gen magnas...could be wrong of course..
if not he prolly knows who does.
Just a quick update. I did buy a used Dyna 3000 from someone on another board. I installed it over the Xmas break, and I love this thing! If you've installed an ignition advance module on a car or other bike, then you know what I'm talking about. The additional advance makes it pick up so much better and it runs strong through the redline since the Dyna removes the stock timing retard that comes in at about 9K.
Well worth the $180 paid (to me anyway), but now it does need a bit of tuning, as I'm noticing a bit of stumble at about 2K. I'm assuming a little more pilot jet will fix that. Since I'm running a stock filter and pipes, with 105 jets and 1 additional shim, I left the pilot at 2.5 turns prior to the Dyna. I need to add .25-.50 turns now I be thinkin'.

I was thinking of a different way to add advance without having to use the dyna 3k. I was thinking how the magna and many other bikes use the pickup module and the trigger wheel to generate pulses that go to the ignition box. i wanted to figure out a way to make or move the wheel back a little more to add more overall timing, but someone thought one better. check out this site below. this guy modified and moved the pickup a little and gained about 4 degrees advance timing. this isn't on a magna, but a honda ace i think. ours is built very similar, but i've never taken off the cover to inspect to see if this can be done. It looks interesting. I've seen other bikes pickup wheels and they are replacable, but ours looks to be part of the starter mechanism and not easily duplicated. These guys on this ACE forum have used this for a few years or so, when i read the posts, with good results, and picking up a few mpg's as well as more power.

Chad, how much more timing are you running right now with your Dyna 3000 then stock? I have heard of kits for advancing the timing on valkyrie's as well. Good read, wonder if it could be done on the magna?
QuoteI was thinking of a different way to add advance without having to use the dyna 3k.
I advance the timing on the 1990 fZR400 I had using a special set key. The flywheel on it used a set key to keep it from spinning and I bought one that was sort of offset.
I have not pulled the cover off of mine, yet, either to see if something similar could be done. I bet Dave Dodge would know.
i emailed dynatec to see if they had a dyna 3000 ignition module possibly hidden away and they replied that they do not and that it was discontinued. i asked if they will ever put them back into production. the answer i got was probably not because i was the 3rd person to inquire about the dyna 3000 for a honda magna in the past many years. they said that there would need to be able to sell at least 100 units a year to recuperate their costs. so all you magna owners who would like to see this ignition module put back into production should go to dynatecs web sight, click on the contact info, and email them asking to reproduce this item. if they see enough interest we may be able to change their mind about producing it again. http://www.dynaonline.com the contact us tab is on the top of the page in the blue title bar. i contacted sales with my inquiry. Lets change their mind about reproducing this awesome bolt on increase in power.
