Title: Plastic chrome cover removal
Post by: mainerider on November 26, 2008, 05:29:42 PM
Hi,
Before I do something that I'll regret later... is there more than just the single bolt at the bottom that holds the left side faux chrome "breather' cover on? I want to check the EGR foam element for deterioration but it seems as though the cover is held on by more than the single bolt.  Thanks.
Joe

THere's the 8mm blot at the bottom and that's it for bolts. there are two plastic 'nubbies' that hold the top left and right corners into a rubber grommet. wiggle it SLIGHTLY side-to side with a pulling motion and it should come right out. more on the pull straight back than the side to side. the tabs can and will break if you're not careful. i have one broken on one of my covers. it still holds in pretty good.  8)

Thanks. It felt like grommets were holding it but better to ask first.

These rubber grommets get really hard when they are:

a) old

or

b) cold

If yours fit both these categories, maybe you ought to ride to Texas before your try to pull the covers off...
