Title: Pipe Discolorization
Post by: Jamtndll on December 25, 2008, 02:27:52 PM
My front pipes seem to changing colors.  They look like they are turning a golden color.  Is this normal or am I running to hot?  It is up close to the heads.

Jim the color you speak of tends to mean a bit of lean condition.  Check and make sure your header bolts are torqued correctly..

I remember we did your carbs and put in the K&N filter......However I cannot remember your muffler's?

Jim
Once you rectify the cause [lean or rich] , the discoloration is fairly easy to clean up.
I had bad bluing due to a too lean condition and fixed it and then went after the discoloration.
I used Blu Job  , a chrome polisher and it worked great

I think I still have some around if you want to try it out, let me know
Its a powder that you put on with damp rag or polish wheel
t took a bit of elbow grease but polished out the color and didnt scratch the pipes

What is the correct torque for those?
