Title: Wheel torque
Post by: Magna86 on January 09, 2009, 09:46:35 AM
This weekend I'm going to do some work ont he V45. I want to pull the wheels off so I can paint the high gloss black to see how they look. I've painted wheels before and they have looked good with minimal chip. Will give me the look without the price of powder coating for now. My question is does anyone properly torque the wheels back according to specs? Also any tricks to getting the rear wheel off? I'll be doing this in my driveway with the bike on its center stand.

I don't think the centerstand will get the rear end high enough to wiggle the rear tire out from under the fender and license plate.  That might be enough to get the axel out but the rear end needs to rise up quite a bit to get the wheel and tire out.  I always torque everything back to book specs.

But I don't have the standard rear fender than sweeps below the tail light. My plate is mounted on my driver side by the seat release. If not I think I can lift it with my jack and set in on something.

unfortunately not because I got called into work Sunday. So its on the plate for Sat night/Sun morn so I can ride it Sun. On the list is to pull/paint the wheels, remove rear fender and install new rear turn/run lights, shim the carbs, degrease motor from valve cover leak and paint the motor to get rid of the overspray from previous owner! But there will pics posted of bike when I get some things if not all of them done! Wish me luck and I'll be bundling up to get it done!
