Title: Carb Shims
Post by: Magna86 on January 18, 2009, 06:08:13 PM
Alright got the V45 shimmed last night! First off all strongly recommend removing radiator or pulling carbs! Spent more time looking for a bolt that fell! A couple of things when you go to install a shim isn't there supposed to be one already factory? Or is that later models? Mine had no shims and would not allow me to put 2 in so I only put 1! Got the bike back together and reset the pilot screws not sure if more than 2 1/2 or not the were all different and just adjusted each one from the 2 1/2 point to get the idle/mix right. Noticed a difference in the pickup and no more 4500rpm stumble in my 160mile ride today out around Muenster.

With the bike running and warm, set idle to about 1500 or so, slightly richen the pilot till you notice it slightly slow RPM's a bit, then lean till it slightly raises RPM's a bit and leave there.  Do all of them this way and you should be about right.
