The new "generic" regulator came in and wouldn't fit. I'd already pull the old one out but the new one was still in the packing, so no problem returning it. I took to old one with me to the shop so we could compare before ordering another one. The guy at the shop noticed that the sheath covering the wires going to the plug was badly chaffed. Looking closer, we could see the green wires actually rubbed in half.
I'm going to splice the wire and put the thing back on the bike. If it runs, I'll "keep an eye on it," for a while but leave it there unless it gives me trouble.
Signed yours truly,
Too cheap to buy a new one.
Actually what happened to your old could have happened to your new one. My used regulator is still going strong even with the 55 watt lights that I was told I couldn't run because my regulator wouldn't handle it.. Hang in there you'll get it worked out..
Hey, I wouldn't buy a new one, either, if I could simply repair the one I had.
That isn't "cheap", Guy, it is "prudent".
Hope it works for you, and I expect it will. Nice to find a low cost solution to an otherwise expensive problem.

Good point. I was thinking that too. I know yours has been solid for you. I did get a new battery because the old one wasn't holdong a charge.
I'm using this to clean up and mod a little. I still haven't made up my mind about the road lights. I saw some larger ones that would look good close to the headlight. It would give it that, (lord forgive me) "Harley look." I don't have as much room as you do around the headlight because the hardware on my windshield comes down further. If I can't modify it enough for the larger lights, I may mount some like you have, but on my engine guards. They wouldn't turn with the forks, but they would light up the road nicely.
OK. I got Maggie back together. Looks like she's running good.
I didn't get any of the mods done. The cheap @$$ LEDs I'd bought for under the tank broke, and I still haven't made up my mind which lights I want on the front. Oh well. I'll get em done some time. At least I can ride her now.
I found what rubbed the wires in half. They were drooping down low enough for the chain. A couple of plastic wire ties will hopefully prevent a repeat.

I love it when a plan comes together 8).
Man, I hate "droopy" wires!!!
