Worked on my Suzuki Titan T500 Twin last weekend and needed to sync the carbs.
Here is my homemade carb synchronizer.

Hanging to get all the air bubbles out, I did find a faster much easier way to accomplish this. If you do this let me know and I will explain how. Hole in the top of the yard stick made it easy to hang with bailing wire.

Here are my supplies needed including an important sophisticated 3 speed cooling system.

I put black tape where they were both sides of the oil were level at before I started. What it looked like before I synced the carbs. Here you will also see one side is way up the scale which means the other side must be way down. Not the way it should be.

What it looks like running after both carbs are synced.

Very Nice Terry.. Especially the shot of the Berryman's (SP?)!!!
Thanx

Sync'ed the Project 96 when Allen was here and CANNOT tell a bit of difference in it all!!!!!!!! It had only been bench sync'ed before when I had the carbs off.
Once again confirmed what I have said time and time again, unless the carbs have been apart from each other or some other MAJOR redo, its simply for peace of mind.
How far were they off?
Terry, I have a "mercury stick" with four tubes with mercury in them. Probably a waste of money, but, like Greg says, gives some piece of mind. Only one of mine was off from the other four. It was off about 3 cm of mercury.
What is the operating fluid in yours?
According to the within range I was fine, as pretty much ALL that I have done were...

As if you have to ask....2-Stroke oil !!! 8) 8) Any oil or ATF can be used, these filled with oil are more sensitive than the mercury stick and probably harder to set because of.
If I had Lawrence money I might have me a fancy doodad mercury stick. :-P People like me have to look around the garage and see what we can make with what we have.
The throttle cables are about shot on this bike so I will need a redo when I purchase new cables. These carbs have a separate cable for each side.
Terry, IMO this is the way to sync carbs if you're going to. The mercury guages just don't have near as much resolution. I have always heard to use mineral oil. If you screw up and get it sucked into the intake, the worst consequence is a little white smoke (probably the same with 2 stroke oil).
Online coversion determines that 3 cm of mercury is equal to over 13.5 cm of water column. Since oil is lighter than water, your method yields about 5 times the resolution of a mercury guage.
I agree with Greg though, syncing is overrated and usually not needed.

   So you are saying my Motion Pro mercury gauge is not worth the money I spent on it? If I had known this I would not have bought it. Grrrrrr.

It depends on what you want in a tool. I'm like Terry, if there is a simple and cheap way to cobble something together I usually won't spend extra money I don't have to (unless it's just a really cool item he he he).
