About a year ago, My good friend Bob Barram parted with his favorite HJC Symax :-(, for a newer model, at which time he graciously passed it down to me. I have worn it with pride , but time has left a few scratches and marks and a couple of weeks ago I was riding a little too fast with the chin guard up and the clear shield blew out and was run over by three of the seven bikes behind me. the ratchet had been broken for a while and needed replacing so rather than give up my prized possession, (OK so everyone knows how cheap I am :)) I decided to see if I could salvage it. Let me stop here and say that this is not a debate about whether I should have replaced a 2004 model helmet because it's not safe, It cost me $40.00 to repair, and yes that is all my head is worth :D.. Anyway, You want to see how many parts are in a Symax?

I did manage to get it back together

The color kinda changes in different light so this is not exactly what it looks like in the daylight..

Charles looks good!
Knowing you, I am surprised that you didn't paint it to match one or the other of your bikes while you had it disassembled!!
And I am wondering how the remote control works -- can you lift the face shield by radio or IR link??? :???:

Haven't you been keeping up with technology, Lawrence? That's one of them there new RideRemotes®. They are the coolest things around. If a group of Hawg riders pull up alongside and laugh at your old rice for sounding like a sewing machine, you push the VOLUME UP button until they plead for mercy. Neighbors and/or LEOs objecting? VOLUME DOWN. If you get going too fast in a corner, you can hit STEP and click your way through it to see if things are going to get out of hand. If they are you just hit STOP. Miles to go on a boring, tedious stretch of road? That's what FAST FWD is for. Liked the ride but ready for some different scenery? Change channels. Liked where you were better than where you are now? Change back. (Gives new meaning to highway surfing.) Enjoyed the ride a little too much and got yourself too far out on an empty tank and haven't a clue where you are? REWIND!
That looks like a wrist watch with all the pieces laying there!
As luck would have it I am replacing my white plastic gear and metal hold down clip in my Symax.
QuoteAnd I am wondering how the remote control works
Actually the remote is for the heads up display on the new clear shield, you know, GPS, tachometer, radar and weapons deploy :D..

Now you're talkin!!
Well, Charles, I like the way you work on things and leave no doubt as to how many parts it takes to make one. So what is happening next step with the helmet?
What did you spend the 40 dollars on? I also need a remote in my helmet, does it flip your shield up?
QuoteSo what is happening next step with the helmet?
Next I'll be wearing it to Pittsburg 8-)..
QuoteI also need a remote in my helmet, does it flip your shield up?
Yes, I press the up button with my right hand the shield is automatically raised by my left hand, neat huh :D!!
Charles mentioned weapons a few posts back and we're taking things apart so I'm still on topic with this..........

So "Break Free" is supposed to be your acceptable exchange for SeaFoam.. I would think SeaFoam might perform the same function on a gun.. So.. I accept!!!
Glad you're on Duty Hoot! I was beginning to wonder.
Sounds like he is getting a little soft IMO. :?
