Title: Its Over- Hot Link Lunch
Post by: Jamtndll on March 07, 2009, 05:30:18 PM
The East Texas Hot Link Lunch is over.  I want to thank  each of you who made this event successful.  200 hot links, chili, beans, cole slaw, hamburgers, chicken strips, and hot sauce were consumed by the 40+ people there.  The parking lot was full of Hondas, Triumphs, Harleys. and Suzuki, 36 to be exact.  It was great seeing everyone again and meeting a few new people also.  The weather was fabulous, not real hot, no one got sunburned, the wind was not to bad, and the rain held off.  There were plenty of stories being told and good times to be had.  I hope everyone made it home safe.  MOOTMag 7 was talked about summer plans and trips where talked about.  There is alot of activites going on this summer, get involved with some.
I would like to hear from everyone what their experience was.  It will help me on the next one.

Just rolled in ..............what a great day I had, THANKS JIM for putting this one together.  We had a great turnout with over 30 motorcycles meeting in Pittsburg.  The group I was in from the DFW area was 15 bikes by the time Greg, the queen and Greg's brother met us in East Tawakoni.  I asked Jim why his ride was more succesful than any of mine and one of his "friends" said that Jim paid them more than me. ha ha ha ha  The Pittsburg links were great, as was the seafood gumbo.  It was great to eat and socialize with the many MOOT friends I've made over the years and the schedule was relaxed with plenty of time for gabbing.  Jim's ride route after the meal was everything I expected it to be with a little something for everyone.  Jim you did a great job leading.

I've been needing this ride for quite some time, working lots of hours and playing catch up at home.  I wasn't even sure I'd make it but it was just what the doctor ordered!  When's the next one?

After a late evening, night, and early morning of tire dismounting/mounting it was time to gear up and head out to meet the rest of the crew in Quinlan.  The Queen and I jumped on the Valk and took off towards Mesquite to hook up with my brother Kelly with his new shoe'ed Magna!
We headed out highway 80 then 34 towards the rendevuous point and found Greg O. sitting there at the Shell station waiting at 09:18.  The main North DFW group said they would make this point by 09:15-09:30..
While Kelly was gassing up my phone started to ring, it was Rocket Bob Barram informing me that we were late and holding the group up!
They had already passed up the meeting location and were about 10 miles up the road, so we took off and caught with them as they waiting for us at a fuel stop.
Now the group was at least 16 strong, Jeff H. lead the group on into Pittsburg to the Hot Link destination!  We all pulled into the parking lot and begain telling lie's and talking about Allen!!!!     He was certainly missed!  hehehe
Wasnt long till Jim T. and group pulled in as well, shortly followed by another smaller North DFW group. We decided we couldnt stand it any longer we could not wait on Texarkana group any longer.  WE would surely would starve and waste away if we had to endure anymore time waiting on Charles and the rest of the Texarkana crew to arrive!
We lined up for the FOOD!  Lots of good choices to be had.  Once at the table with the food there was still no sightings of the Texarkana group, then someone received a call that they had to stop and replace a tire on one of the bikes.  But all was good!
They arrived!  In time to get some grub and meld into the gabbing sessions!  More lie's were told and a lot of bike sniffing!
Thanks Jim for putting this one together!  Great JOB!  Keep up the good work!  It was great to see all that were able to attend!  For those who could not make it, as always you missed another GREAT MOOT outing!

Excellent, Excellent ride today. A great mix of cruising, high speed and twisty roads through the piney woods of East Texas. Thanks to Jim for all the hard work and time invested in this adventure (and Vicky for letting him do it).

Good eats and great fellowship with everyone.

Good to see Jeff H. back in the saddle and riding with Debbie.

Curtiss and I got some poor fuel mileage coming back from Tyler on I-20 for some reason

Let's get another one in before the rainy season hits.

Van, Texas rally point. A little overcast, but cool.

WOW! what a ride, Jim, that was something special! I had a great time seeing everybody and meeting some new ones. Nice bikes and great people. The ride was well planned, how Jim made it from Pittsburg to Big Sandy without a single turn around or loosing a single bike I do  not know but it was great.
We made it back to DFW okay, I had bad mileage also, I think it had something to do with the extra weight in my trunk.....

   Wow what a great day! Bunches of bikes everywhere and great company!   Since it has been over a year since I was in the saddle it was wonderful to be able to ride, check out rides, and visit with everyone, it really made our day. Pittsburg Hot Links cooked us up some great links which were as good as I remember, yes I'll be going back for more. A special thanks to the church elder(sorry I can't recall his name now but that's normal for me) who blessed everything we did today. A big thanks to Bob for hauling back 15 lb.'s of links for me but and as we all know it didn't have anything to do with his lack of gas mileage :-D And don't tell tmds3 about what Bob brought me either LOL. My only regret is I didn't get to talk and visit with everyone there. Took a few pics and will post asap. Looking forward to the next get together for sure.

QuoteWow what a great day!

My thoughts exactly 8). Other than a small blip in our trip ( Guy's flat in Mt Pleasant) our ride was great. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone, but by the time we got there, the parking lot was so full of bikes and people it was like trying to count minnows in a bucket (well fed minnows at that). We can't wait until Moot Mag, no really, we can't wait until Moot Mag, we need to do this again soon :D.. I have never met a nicer group of folks, I consider it an honor to be counted as part of Moot. Thanks Jim for a great get together today and Greg and the founding fathers for sitting down and thinking up this whole Moot thing..

Me, Brenda and Mike on his Kawasaki (Ninja 900+) had a great time.  The GPS getting us to Pittsburg was great.  I wanted off the beaten path but one 10-mile road was just beaten (one rough road). Had a great time enjoyed the parking lot so much we did not get to go to the museums or memorials.  I think I will be going back again to check them out.   Had a great ride back with Terry,  Mary Ellen, John & Barbara and Mike.
We stopped in at some famous hamburger joint in Mineola. While the ladies shopped at an antique store we (the guys) had a hamburger.  We then headed to Plano meet up with Mike's family ate at the Blue Goose (Tex-Mex restaurant).  Mike is going to try to talk his wife in to going to MOOTmag in June.

278 miles for the day.

I'm probably the last one home.  After departing Camp Fannin I went south to Alto and spent the night with the in laws.  Made it back to Coppell today about 2:00.  Put about 425 miles on the Valk over the two days.

Jim, thanks for organizing this ride.  Great turnout, weather, roads, food and company.  I hope the event wets a lot of appetites for a ride filled 2009.  Hope to see many of you again at Koyote Ranch in June.

Jim and Lawrence, only 131 days until Colorado.

Had a great time Saturday!  I know everyone can't make every event but you certainly missed a good one this time around!

After all the time it took to remove the wheels, beat, bang and kick the tires off and on and replacing them, adjusting the chain it was all worth it.   The bike is a different beast now.  I got 110 miles on that last tank before i decided to put gas in it yesterday, guess I missed that *head-wind* gets a lot better gas mileage on those longer runs for sure.

I believe it is now Allen's turn to organize an event!

Thanks to Jim for putting this together you did an outstanding job!  Kelly

My turn.

What a great time and ride! Thanks for leading and coming up with the route Jeff H.  (SliveradoCowboy)Ones who missed the gumbo you might want some next time you're through.

I wanted to get around and meet everyone, maybe next time I meet a few more, guess you were lucky this time!  :P  My memory is not the best, if I ask your name many times please don't be offended, it's me or what I have lost!

This was our first gas stop, actually our second, the first one was closed.

Aw shucks, you didn't have to take my picture.  He was actually putting his hand down, I happen to catch him in an unusual poseur, or did I.....

Hard to take photos from behind using my throttle lock and not running into the bike in front of you, here are a couple.

Looking around the corner you will see how much road we took up.

This was the bike Rodney rode we met him at Walmart in Wylie. This is Rods son who rode a orange VTX, I was told later they were somewhat competitive with a little drag racing on take-offs. On one take-off I stretched my legs some, passed up John (rode the Gold Wing), Rodney to catch up to Rod than back-off in position. John is use to me doing that at times, Rodney might have been surprised, I explained when I stopped. (Good Greg didn't see what we were doing in the back of the line)!.

As Robert alluded to earlier, John, Mike (rode green Kawasaki Sport bike), Robert (Magnum Magna) & Brenda, Myself (TLRam1) & Mary Ellen headed to Mineola.  As we were sampling some hot links John made reference to a burger house in Mineola, that's all it takes for me to say, I'm game! So we joked a little more, Robert overheard or something and we ended up in Mineola. Great roads there! And we did eat a burger. Greg, I guess you better start inviting yourself, looks like I will never get around to it. LOL
(http://i471.photobucket.com/albums/rr80/MOOT-Photos/DSCN8465.jpg)

A lady I acknowledged when we walked in offered to take a photo of us all, normally the photos do not come out well but the gesture is welcomed.

Starting on the left, Terry, John, Mike (Roberts friend) and Robert.

Greg C. is going to kill me......Yep, We headed to Blue Goose for more food and a beverage, yes, the MOOT ride was officially over.

Starting on the left, Robert (Magnum Magna), Brenda, Mary Ellen, blank spot was me Terry (TLRam1), on the right Mike (Kawasaki Sportbike), John (Goldwing) and  Barbara.

This is Robert's wife Brenda, such a good photo I had to include it. The only way to recognize her is when you look for Brenda ask everyone to put their hand in front of their face.

Mary Ellen and myself headed to Strokers afterward, not many bikes, set and listened to the band for a bit than the singer came over introduced himself and talked a little.

While I was there I was admiring this guys Harley Fat Boy, good looking bike, had Sampson pipes and a 42 Mikuni carb recently put on. The guy threw me his keys and told me to take it for a spin. The first spin was somewhat impressive except his gloves flew off the bike, came back to get the Magna for a search and recover mode. We found them, he told me to take it for a real spin! Wow, it ran strong and well, hit 70-80 in a hurry! I missed getting a photo, nice blue color, plenty of chrome highlighted with blue LED's.

A couple of notes,

Jeff, your CB antenna might need some adjusting, I didn't see what you were using.

When you put the distressed call out "your chrome cover came off" I didn't hear you, another time John heard you say something but said he didn't hear you well, I missed that too but picked up John's response, that is how I knew you said something and I asked John after we arrived. John responded something about "we are all here" or "no cars behind us". Anyway further testing will reveal if there is an issue or not.

Bob, since I didn't have a chance to ride back I am not sure how you CB performed. I think you will be okay and performance will be alright after you remove the Ipod speaker from the CB, we were jamming to Bob's tunes ever time he miked up, and talk in less volume as you did but the MP3 player over whelmed. Again more testing will determine optimum performance.

On Jeff's CB he might want to look under the seat and find several connector plugs.  Treat these with dielectric grease.  My CB went on the blink in Colorado and Patron (Stan G.) had some with him and it fixed me right up.

I'm using the J&M cb with a zero plane antenna. It may need adjusting but according to J&M it shouldn't need any. They say the cables are of the proper length and warn not to cut them. I'm sure I can adjust the antenna up and down to see if that helps. If not I'll contact them and see what they recommend or take it to a cb shop.

Curtis, I'll try the grease also to see if that works, thanks for the tip.

TY, the route turned out nice, I was nervous about making a wrong turn but it all turned out well. Only goof I had was not getting to the meeting point where Greg's group was, nothing exciting like a u-turn or bridge out. :P

Good photos Jeff, do you have a landscape mode?

The CB was an unscientific test, I know from my travels with John we can be some distance apart and do well, you in the front and I in the back were not that far. More testing would be good to confirm this before you go into too much work.
