Title: Exhaust
Post by: motosig102 on March 11, 2009, 08:10:03 PM
Ok maybe somebody has tried this but what if you just ran straight headers..... Correct me if im wrong but isnt that basically what the V&H short shots are for the night train?. Would I have to re-jet the carbs?.

you most definately would have to rejet. the sound of open headers on this bike is waaaaaaay too loud. i am repacking my vance and hines and i took one baffle out and tried to run it to see what it sounded like. it's definately not the sound you want from your bike i can assure you.

The V-45 engine sounds sweet through a four into one open header; but it's unbearably loud.

It would probably be even louder..    What about hurting the valves??    You would want some back pressure I would think... :?

Well it dosen't take as much as you think too beat out the pipes of a Hardley. My friend rides a 2003 Fat Boy with a 108 CI engine Fuel injected stock pipes with a 1" hole saw run through the baffles. My 1994 Magna with the backing plate that the resonator connects to removed, is way louder than his bike, he B*tches that when he rides with me he can't even hear his own bike to change gears.

My other buddy has a 1998 Electra-glide 88 Ci and he has aftermarket pipes on "Reinharts" i think, and our bikes are comparable in loudness he hears me i hear him type idea when we're riding.

I haven't installed the "V&H Classic II" yet but they are supposed to be even louder then the stock pipes with the backing plates removed, if you want ridicously loud exhaust try to get a pair of "Jardine Slip-On-Drags" they have been discontinued but you still find them on ebay and the like.

The 4 into 1 header was not stock; a guy was racing a v-45 years ago, in Memphis Tennessee, and he had made a 4 into 1 open header for it.  I can't remember how fast it ran, but it sounded real mean.
