Title: tires (again)
Post by: HardDriveUSA on March 22, 2009, 12:35:53 AM
Ya, my back tire, I tried a Dunlop, is ready for a change already!!!  Was expecting it to last a little bit longer than this.  The place I checked with didn't have a 150/80 15. they had a 150/90 15 bridgeston exedra g 702  Should I have waited for a tire to come in? or will this tire work.  I wasn't really happy with the Dunlop, was going to try a Metezler.  thoughts anyone? :?

I believe the 90 will fit, but will slightly change your RPM to Speed ratio as it is a taller tire. (like subtracting a tooth from the rear sprocket..
I have had excellent luck with Avon Venom's (Average about 15K+), but would definitely consider the Metzler!!! I have had good luck with Metz front tires and my wife is very happy with her Metz on the back of her Sabre.. (She had a Avon previously.. She too got about 15K out of her tire, but is VERY satisfied with the Metz.. She has ~8k on the Metz and it looks almost new..
I don't do anything Dunlop or Bridgestone (Bridgestone being a Firestone Company). But that's my prejudice..

Not that I have much to compare other tires at all.  On a previous thread, it was either metezler or dunlop.

Get the oversized Metzler.  I still dislike the stock size Metzler, just trying to get some miles on it before I change back to Dunlop so the cost wont feel like a total lost.

The stock size Metz on the rear is NOT compareable to the oversized Metz on the rear, PLEASE do not make your complete judgement on the Metz until you try the larger sizes.

However I am VERY happy with the oversized Avon Venom on the rear of the Project 96.

What over size Avon tire did you go to? Did you have to change anything? I'm actually going to change my front out first..has a 120/80/17 Dunlop...I think I'm going Avon all the way. What would you recommend to get the most tread on the ground on a stock bike? I haven't had this bike long and still learning it is a BREED of its own...Makes me even love it more.........Cuz

Capt. Howard, actually if I had it to do over again, I would have put the Metz on the front and the Avon on the rear.  I have Avon AM26 Roadrunner on front 120/70-17 http://www.jpcycles.com/Search/ProductDetail?sku=ZZ21442&N=275212%204294966117%204294966053%204294967047&Ne=75532&Ntk=All&Ntt=&Ns=DefaultSort&results=10&No= its a good tire and such, just wish it were a bit taller.  The Metz is available in stock size 120/80-17..

For the rear 170/80-15 Avon Venom http://www.jpcycles.com/Search/ProductDetail?sku=ZZ21053&N=275212%204294966117%204294965099%204294966670&Ne=75706&Ntk=All&Ntt=&Ns=DefaultSort&results=10&No= all that is required is a brakestay rod replacement or clearance adjustment.  I recommend the Cycle-Istic rod, looks great and works even better.

Try American Moto Tire. The Avon is $5 cheaper, but check the shipping charges on both..
I have ordered multiple tires from them and always had a good experience..

I've never tried the Avon Front tire, because it is different from stock.. I've had several Metz front tires and have always been happy with them..

I was not Dissing J&P Cycles, just stating my experiences.. If they have been a MOOTMag sponsor, then maybe order from there and mention that you appreciate their support while on the phone with them.. Or in their comments if ordering on-line..
