Title: LED Kits
Post by: Magna86 on April 01, 2009, 08:20:04 PM
Yes I know this has been a topic. Have any of you bought a complete LED kit. If so how many LED's were in it and was it enough?

I got this kit from Cycle Gear with the power pod, I have 2 under the triple tree, 4 under the tank and the 2 long strips under the rear fender with an extra on/off switch mounted to one of the side covers(sorry no pics for now cause of being on crutches). Got mine in blue and the are pretty bright at night.

For the mechanically challenged....me

Can you tell me how you installed them?

How do they work? Will they drain your battery?

Can you put them on your wheels (on the inside) to create "wheels of fire" (red/orange coloring)?

I have not installed my LEDs.  Hope to install them this Friday

I believe you wire them to your battery through a switch.  They draw very little on the battery.

They make some valve stem LEDs.  There are two types of those. (1) light up every time the wheel is spinning day or night (2) light up only at night with the wheel spinning.

I just bought this kit for my wife's Sabre... Pretty cool..
I don't have it installed yet, but after looking at the lights themselves, I see no reason it would not work on Magna blinker lights...
I have removed my rear blinkers on my Magna because of my new saddle bags, so I won't be installing them on my Magna... I have lights mounted on the bags themselves.

I installed them on Friday.   Viewed it that night, luckily I tied them down with twist wire not tie wraps. I will need to reposition most of them. The strips under the frame and the ones I put on the license-plate are OK. The six under the tank all need to be moved a little.  I am debating to buying another full kit or just a few more pods. a full kit would give me another set of strips to go under the bags.

I put two under the triple tree, 4 under the tank all wired together to cut down on the number of wires coming out, and then 2 under the rear fender. I routed the wires along with the stock wires to help hide them, and then used twist ties to secure them in place. I did use a type of auto glue(don't remember which one) that I got  at Pep Boys to secure the pods better than the double stick tape that is supplied with the kit. On the tank they pods are out at the four corners of the tank, just need to be sure that they are not hitting anything. The ones under the rear fender I put right in the center of the fender side by side and then attached with some screws, I then drilled a hole in the fender to run the wires thru to get to the power block that I had. I also ran the power wire from the battery to a switch and then to the powerblock, that way I can turn them on or off at will, have left them on all night and the bike still started right up the next morning.

Pictures never do it justice.  Do you have a light at the back of the seat also?

I have 2 on the frame where crossmember is for the front of coils to mount, 2 more on frame behind radiator, 2 more on frame behind rear valve cover and one under one the swing arm. If you sen me youe mail I can send the larger files for easier viewing.
