Title: Fan Stat
Post by: Magna86 on April 15, 2009, 08:27:12 AM
After doing some research I found the fan stat's that should fit my 86 magna.  But all the results show that everyone has 2 prong connectors. But in my 86 its a single blade connector with a ground wire going to radiator. So can anyone tell me what they did on this. Would you just cut the ground wire and connect it to the other prong on the fan stat? Also which one did you use and didn;t bottom out it in the magna radiator?

My fan stat has never worked, in fact I have 3 radiators and NONE of them work.  I have read the info from the V4 board on civic fan stats and saw what you are saying, none are blade style like yours and mine.  It would not be too hard to find 2 female ends and splice them on in place of the plastic blade connecter.  BUT, with as much talk as I have heard about the fan stats still not turning it on soon enough I decided to just keep using the switch I put in.  After a year now it is such a habit for me to turn it on when I slow down or stop and back off when I get up to speed I am fine doing it.

I did an "emergency" modification on my fan switch at MOOT MAG 4 at Hot Springs AR because my sensor failed.  Well, here comes MOOT MAG 7 and the temporary emergency fix is still in place. Like DG, I have become comfortable with just hitting the switch when ever it is called for.

Yeah I have the manual switch already. I purchased a fan stat for an 83 accord. It was the Murray brand with the blade connectors. I ran a ground wire for the other side. The fan stat worked like a charm and doesn't bottom out on our 84-86 radiators.

Thanks for the update.  On the V4 forum just the other day I read someone having issues with a fanstat being intermittent at only 1 yr old.  I would not remove that manual switch, IMO.
