Title: parts compatibility
Post by: Hamers34 on May 23, 2009, 08:30:16 PM
I am Lookin to put highway pegs on my 84 Magna. Ebay has alot of stuff but what year make and model "crash bar" will work. Ive seen some for 83 or 85 V65's but dont really know much about what years will work. ALso, my bike has a sport fairing installed on the front and I dont like they way it looks but it looks worse off. I guess there is some sort of headlight extension installed to fit the fairing. Can I find a decent aftermarket windshield to fit with the rectangle headlight, or do I need to do the round VTX light Ive been readin about here. Thanks.

What magna do you have the v45 or the v65? slipstreamer windsheilds will work with the square headlight and I am sure that there or others that will work. Not sure on the crash bars.

On my V65 I have the Spitfire windshield, I like it but for me it could be a little taller to cut down on wind buffeting. Which fairing do you have? Something like a Rifle fairing? Are you wanting to replace the windshield for that fairing or remove it all together?

You don't need the VTX light mod for your 1st gen but if you need a brighter light you could use a Silverstar bulb (H4 I think).

The frames on the V45 are an inch narrower than the V65.
The V65 Hondaline crash bars will fit the 83-85 and the 86 requires one for that year IIRC. Not sure if one from a Sabre will fit the Magna.

Ive got a V45. I will get some pics on here soon. The sport fairing looks "custom" no name or "made in china" anywhere. I just wanna get the cruiser look for it. not a mongrol mut look, besides its too short to benefit me anyway. I took it off yesterday but theres a fiberglass bracket under it that puts the light about 4-5 inches away from the handlebar/ fork area. so I need to find an original headlight mount and a nice lookin inexpensive windshield.

I've got a small Spitfire windshield on my '86 now and Love it.  When I bought it, it had a HUGE clear plexi-faring which made it kinda susceptable to the winds that blow down here...  The old one is in my signature, one of these days I'll get an updated picture.

Hamers34,
The quickest way I found was to upload the pics to photobucket and then use the url that it gives you to post the pics if you use the "img thumb" then when someone clicks on it a bigger pic shows up. Hope this isn't to confusing, pic will show up like this.

If you want email me your pics and I will post them.

The '84 V45 is kinda of an oddball of the V45's, some parts will change out while others are year specific but i think any of the crash bars for the V45 will fit.

If you have any questions about an oem part I will run it thru my cross reference software to check fitment. I can't check the crash bars but most other parts I can.

welp, went to a bike junkyard and seen some light setups. I guess I got the stock bracket but havent pulled the fairing to look at anythin else, Id rather ride it thatn work on it. But I did find the reflector for the license plate holder and the HONDA badge for the fender for $5. later.
