I changed the back tire on my Magna. While I had the wheel off, I checked the brakes. They looked good. I put everything back together, but now the rear brake won't release until the bike comes to a stop. I can hear a click, and the entire break assembly jerks as it releases. I tired to toe up the pedal while moving to get it to release, but no good. It seems the back wheel has to either stop, or actually move backwards a little before the break will release.
I've tightened, and loosened the adjustment nut all the way from locked shut to so loose the brake never engages with no change.
Anybody seen this before?
Guy, I have worked around that area a lot but never seen that problem. I would take off the tire again and check the pads inside the wheel and make sure they are seated correctly. I do not think any adjustments on the outside would cause that to happen.
Guy,
Several items can cause this, the list is not inclusive.
Cam that rotates the shoes can get clogged up with grim and brake dust where it turns/twists.
Shoes worn so far the cam has to turn too far and gets stuck.
I have not looked at he Magna but should be a separate spring on the brake peddle to help pull it back in place.
Springs attached to the shoes and shoes as Bob states seated in the proper position.
Other people will add a few other ideas here.
Got it fixed. Charles bailed me out. I'd put the drive chain adjuster on the brake stopper arm. I guess that left enough play for the shoes to jam inside the drum. It's working fine now.
I know that sounds dumb, but I hadn't planed on waiting a week to put every thing back together. As I took stuff off, l kept parts together in the order they went back on. I guess during the week I was waiting for the right tire, I must have kicked that piece into the wrong pile.
Guy, at least you did not loose and important part like I did, but hey, that is how I got Chuan's permission to buy the Rocket....
