Title: chrome to get home
Post by: IndianaMatt on July 04, 2009, 11:58:11 PM
ok i have to fiddle around with my kick stand a lot, and in the process my boot gets melted onto it. I have to scrub it often, so much in fact, that the chrome is almost completely gone in that area. you dont notice it unless youre looking for it, its down to the nickel but its still shiny. does seafoam make anything that can bring chrome back?

Chrome is a type of "plating". Your question is like if you rubbed the paint off of your tank in a spot, asking is there a way to bring the paint back..

The only thing I can say is I use a product call Wenol to clean the rubber off, The rubber comes off quickly and the chrome is still perfect. You have used something that has removed the Chrome plating..

You can shine the nickel and make it look close to chrome, but the only way to return the Chrome back is to put the exhaust in a chrome bath process again.

The chrome shops I've talked to won't rechrome exhaust because the carbon inside the exhaust ruins their plating solution. Anyone actually had an exhaust rechromed, if so where?

I haven't, but know of a few that have, it would take some digging to find out where in the US, the issue is what you describe.
