Title: My observation on chain maintenence
Post by: barkymarky on July 26, 2009, 12:29:22 PM
Now that I'm riding again after so many years I am maintaining my Magna just like the manual requires. But I have to laugh remembering my first 100cc dirt bike. I literally rode it for hundreds and hundreds of hours in the So. Cal desert from the time I was 14 untill I was 17 and never cleaned or lubed the chain. I didn't know any better. I just washed it, kept it clean and rode the heck out of it. Never had any problems. Things change. We learn.

I doubt you would get away with that today given the materials and workmanship found in parts now days.   :-x

When I was kid every time I changed the oil I would use the old oil on the chain.

I personally believe that most adjust their chains too tight causing them to stretch them right out of life before they wear out.

Keep it clean, lubed, and adjusted on the loose side and you can get quite a bit of life from one.
