Title: Solenoid installation
Post by: benny220 on August 04, 2009, 07:27:31 AM
Good morning,

I've recently purchased a 1984 vf500c to bring back to life. Among other little issues, the bike did not come with a solenoid. I know that there is a white pluG that connects to it, but I'm not sure if or how it connects to the battery. Would anybody be able to shed some light on the subject? Pictures would be welcomed as well. Thank you.

"battery ground terminal on the left post + battery terminal on the right post"

Ok, thats good to know! Now I have two longer, thicker gage wires hanging there. One looks like one goes into the engine case (I'm assuming the starter?) and one might be a ground(?) as it connects to the outside of the case. How and where do those connect?

Thanks for the help! I was at least able to get the lights to turn on, but the engine would not turn over. In the picture you took, is that a fuse on the front of the solenoid? The solenoid that  I acquired on ebay does have a place for a fuse, bu does have two screw posts. Maybe I can hook up an in line fuse? What are your thoughts?
